About AKHS-A (Aga Khan Health Service-Afghanistan)

Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

Job Description

  • Provide leadership on pharmacy services and support the team on all pharmacy related activities.
  • Liaise with AKHS national office on all issues pertaining to pharmacy services. ✓ Ensure proper receipt of all pharmaceuticals from Kabul with good documentation  ✓ Arrange timely transfer and accompany all pharmaceuticals to health facilities.
  • Ensure proper receipt of all pharmaceuticals by all health facilities.
  • Responsible for the efficient running of the medical stocks in both PHT and health facilities.
  • Ensure stock rooms are clean and well-arranged according to MDS system/ policies.
  • Provide accurate documentation and calculation of drugs in stock.
  • Maintain high quality stock cards in medical stocks and health facilities.
  • Indent of drug on a regular basis to ensure adequate stocks are always available.
  • Analyses all pharmaceuticals management consumption patterns in the health facilities to develop standard pharmaceuticals supplies system to prevent stock ruptures, misuse and wastage 
  • Maintain pharmacy database with accuracy on monthly basis
  • Carry out monthly stock checks and ensure communication on near expire drugs.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on all pharmaceutical and medicals equipment supplies management issued and consumed and stock balances.
  • Keep up date on recent advances in pharmacy management techniques.
  • Attend training on regular basis to upgrade skills to improve pharmacy services.
  • Provide support, guidance and training on the job to pharmacy technicians in health facilities.
  • Assist in providing accurate documents on all pharmaceuticals during audits.
  • Oversee operational activities on all pharmaceutical and medical equipment’s managements for all health facilities including transportation to health facilities.
  • Liaise with RHPM/ RHPO/ NPO/DMU national office on all near to expire drugs for urgent actions.
  • Ensure timely reporting of shortage of all pharmaceuticals supplies managements in health facilities.
  • Receive all incoming goods and check quantity and quality against delivery documents 
  • Record all stock transactions (receipts, issues, balances) in stock registers or systems 
  • Arrange and store items properly for easy access and safety 
  • Issue materials based on approved requests or requisition forms 
  • Maintain updated inventory records at all times 
  • Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile with records 
  • Report any damages, losses, or discrepancies to the supervisor 
  • Monitor stock levels and inform management about shortages or expiry items 
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper organization of the store 
  • Follow safety and storage guidelines (especially for sensitive items) 
  • Prepare and submit stock reports (daily, weekly, monthly) ✓ Perform any other duties assigned by PHPO/RHPC      

Job Requirements

Education:

Pharmacy Degree/ Deploma Work Experience:

    • Pharmacy Degree with Minimum 2 years’ Experience
    • Pharmacy Diploma with Minimum 4 Years Experience.

Skills:                     

    • Having skills on computer and used of Microsoft office.  
    • Having experience on Medical Stock Management      
    • Having report writing and data analysing skill.
    • Excellent English Language knowledge         
    • Fluently written and spoken in local language.
