About Future Generations Afghanistan:

Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building.  The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005.  Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar, Nuristan, Logar, Wardak, Nimruz, Herat, Kanadahar and Badghis Provinces

Job Descriptions:

The Main purpose of this position is to lead the engineering department of the organization in accordance with its program requirements.

Job Requirements:

    • Spearhead the finalization of detailed drawings for small-scale irrigation infrastructure in collaboration with provincial engineering and program teams. Ensure that these designs align with project objectives, adhere to sustainability standards, and promote efficient water use in agriculture.
    • Act as the primary engineering liaison between FGA and its respective donors in Kabul. Collaborate closely to coordinate the design of irrigation infrastructure, seeking necessary approvals for implementation and ensuring compliance with international standards.
    • Undertake regular travel to all FGA project sites in provinces to conduct on-site inspections. Monitor project progress, verify the adherence to approved designs and technical specifications, and address any challenges or modifications required for optimal implementation.
    • Evaluate and provide hands-on technical guidance to provincial engineering teams. Facilitate workshops and training sessions, ensuring that the teams are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to execute their scope of work effectively.
    • Collaborate closely with donors, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to foster effective communication and coordination. Address any technical concerns, ensuring that the implementation of irrigation infrastructure aligns seamlessly with project goals and community needs.
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of project activities, technical specifications, and evaluation reports. Ensure that all project documentation is transparent, easily accessible, and aligns with internal and external reporting requirements.
    • Institute rigorous quality assurance measures, conducting regular assessments to guarantee that irrigation infrastructure projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and durability.
    • Regular field visits and providing on the job training and support to staff.
    • Assisting the program team in solving social issues.
    • Assisting the program team in developing proposals.
    • Any other activity assigned by the line manager

Qualification:

  • Possess a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of irrigation infrastructure projects, showcasing a track record of successful project execution in rural development contexts.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using advanced engineering software and tools for designing irrigation structures.
  • Familiarity with the regulations and guidelines of UN agencies and other relevant donors, with proven experience in obtaining approvals for infrastructure projects.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders effectively.
