About STARS:
The Skills Training and Rehabilitation Society (STARS) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to humanitarian and development efforts in Afghanistan. It was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated individuals to serve the country. STARS operates independently and apolitically, with a firm commitment to serving the most vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. Since its establishment, STARS has been steadfast in its mission to contribute to Afghanistan's development in partnership and collaboration with the global community.
STARS is focused on empowering and uplifting marginalized communities, with a particular emphasis on women and children. Job Description:
Gender officer responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
• Review and revise the STARS Gender Policy document.
• Develop a gender mainstreaming strategy for STARS projects.
• Maintain communication with the Donors and STARS offices on gender-related issues.
• Develop training modules and conduct training on gender mainstreaming, gender equality, and empowerment of women and girls for all STARS projects
• Prepare progress reports and reports for the program department on how gender issues are being addressed by STARS projects.
• Conduct analyses and generate quarterly reports on the inclusion and participation of women in projects, specifically focusing on the status of women as project beneficiaries.
• Lead the development of advocacy and visibility materials on gender-related issues including gender issues in the implementation of projects.
• Advice on innovative ways to include women-focused projects and to improve women's businesses through community action planning and Community Agreements, including opportunities for gender-sensitive procurement.
Job Requirements:
• University degree in a relevant field preferred.
• At least three years of experience working in the field of gender, women's rights, or human rights, with 5 years of experience
Knowledge of computer MS Office such as word, excel, power point, internet, and outlook.
Comprehensive understanding of gender issues in Afghanistan.
Demonstrated planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Advanced facilitation, coordination and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
Fluency in both spoken and written English, in addition to local languages Pashto and Dari.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Excellent cross-cultural skills, ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural NGO environment, with respect, professionalism and gender sensitivity.
