Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district.  The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.

 

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend utilisation of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.

Job Descriptions:

Overall purpose

To be a senior clinical at static and outreach sites providing integrated health and nutrition services to targeted communities. He/she will provide outpatient consultation to adult male patient and women and children, supporting midwife and nurses to deliver high quality care according to standard guidelines and best practice respectively. Oversee provision of IMNCI, RH (ANC, PNC & FP), MHPSS, injury and trauma care and community health activities. Coordinate with EPI team both at static and during outreaches to provide scale up immunization, establish referral pathways to strengthen links between project locations and existing static health facilities and contributed to effective AAP integrated approach.

 

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Provide daily clinical supervision of health activities at the assigned BHC locations.
  • Coordinate with staff and check patient flow and organize the team and the site efficiently and according to quality standards.
  • Oversee the implementation of Adult OPD, IMNCI, RH, injury and trauma care, PSS, AAP, and support community health activities when required, establish referral pathways to strengthen links between project locations and existing static health facilities in project areas of operation.
  • Assist with on-the-job training of health facility staffs and nutrition staff in managing co-existing illnesses, triage, and thorough assessment and referral
  • Ensure adherence to the organization’s values and professional behaviour of all nutrition staff and take the lead in resolving problems if needed.
  • Support PSS staff with referral and follow up of cases requiring referral to Mental Health PHC consultation or specialised care.

 

Technical responsibilities (involvement as needed):

  • Provide medical assessment of adult, children and women provide attending for PHC services and provide appropriate medical treatment following national protocols, IMNCI and RH guidelines.
  • Examine children admitted to nutrition programme for co-existing illnesses/IMNCI or complications and provide appropriate medical treatment or referral according to IMCI guidelines.
  • Review complicated IMNCI cases and especially children under 6 months and take the final decision on referral to the hospital.
  • Support in disease surveillance in coordination with the facility supervisor.
  • Review complicated RH beneficiaries and take final decision on their referral.
  • Ensure appropriate education and counselling is given to the beneficiaries and care takers.
  • Ensure treatment is given according to guidelines and protocols approved by National MoPH
  •  Quality management:
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of all activities at the mobile health site or in the communities.
  • Submit required daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Carry out required quality checks according to provided checklists.

Clinical supportive supervision and on the Job training to mobile team and community staff

External representation:

  • Liaise with stakeholders providing health in the same location, especially for referrals.
  • In collaboration with the facility supervisor and other health team operating in the same district ensure staff of referral facilities are informed of all aspects of the program including referral pathways
  • Assist in mapping of villages and communities that have poor access to health and nutrition services.
  • In collaboration with the health supervisor and manager, establish referral pathways to appropriate health facilities, paediatric and inpatient facility.
  • Provide feedback to the Health Manager, Health & Nutrition Project Manager on community specific challenges and barriers.

 

Logistics:

    • Prepare regular stock requests to ensure sufficient stock (medicine, medical supplies, and non-medical supplies) and coordinate with the supervisor to ensure that sufficient stock is available.
    • Support and provide guidance to Pharmacy Assistant in safe storage of all medicine’s medical supplies and equipment.
    • Monitor expiration dates to ensure stocks are used prior to their expiration date.
  • Report any suspected or identified fraud cases at the Health and Nutrition site to the Project Manager

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Graduate from recognized medical faculty, BPHS /PHC related training, IMNCI, RH, Immunization in Practice training.
  • Exit Examination is required for Male medical MDs.
  • Physicians

  • RMNCH, IMNCI, RH trainer
  • Specialization in the relevant field

 

Relevant experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant post graduate experience mainly in a medical facility setting (i.e. hospitals, BHCs or medical centres).
  • Hands on experience in medical consultation for adult patients, IMNCI and RH activities are desired
  • Experience implementing BPHS/BHC/ IMNCI/ RH/EPI programs.
  • Working with an international organization

 

Languages

  • Pashto oral and written skills
  • Good command of English
  • Good English oral and written skills

 

Computer

  • Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and ODK
  • Proficiency data analysis and reporting
  • Familiar with DoPH, PHC, and HMIS reporting

  • Ability to work with community leaders to arrange clinic sites, access, and security.
