The health/medical program at Muslim Hands International - Afghanistan aims to align with the organization's overall goals while maintaining and expanding existing programs. The Mother Kind Clinic (MKC), located in the Pol-e-Charki area of Kabul, is a key project supported by MHI. This clinic offers comprehensive maternity care, including gynecological services, pre and postnatal care, and psychological support to mothers in the surrounding areas. In addition to the services outlined, the clinic goes above and beyond to meet the needs of its patients.

Job Descriptions:

As a Pediatrics Specialist, your role is to provide senior clinical expertise and deliver health services to targeted communities. You will offer outpatient consultations to adult male patients and children while supporting nurses in delivering high-quality care according to standard guidelines and best practices. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the provision of Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI), injury and trauma care, and community health activities. You will also collaborate with the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) team to scale up immunization efforts, establish referral pathways, and strengthen links between project locations and existing static health facilities to ensure an effective integrated approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implementation of Pediatrics and Adult OPD, IMNCI, injury and trauma care, and community health activities.
  2. Assist in on-the-job training of health facility staff and nutrition staff in managing co-existing illnesses, triage, and thorough assessment and referral.
  3. Ensure adherence to the organization's values and professional behavior among clinic staff, taking the lead in resolving problems if needed.

 

Technical Responsibilities:

  1. Take patients' history and advise on lab examinations and prescriptions following the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) policy and standards.
  2. Provide medical assessments and appropriate treatment to adult and pediatric patients, following national protocols and IMNCI guidelines.
  3. Be prepared to respond to emergencies.
  4. Support disease surveillance in coordination with the facility supervisor.
  5. Ensure beneficiaries and caregivers receive appropriate education and counseling.
  6. Ensure treatment aligns with guidelines and protocols approved by the National MoPH.

 

Quality Management:

  1. Maintain accurate record-keeping of all clinic or community activities.
  2. Submit required daily, weekly, and monthly reports and conduct quality checks as per provided checklists.
  3. Be ready to perform any other tasks assigned by the MHI health department or clinic management.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Graduated from a recognized medical faculty, with additional BPHS/PHC-related training, IMNCI, RH, and Immunization in Practice training.
  • Completion of the Exit Examination for Male Medical MDs.
  • Physicians or Pediatricians with specialization in the relevant field.

Relevant Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant post-graduate experience, primarily in a medical facility setting (e.g., hospitals, CHCs, or medical centers).
  • Hands-on experience in medical consultation for adult patients, IMNCI, and RH activities is desired.
  • Experience in implementing BPHS/IMNCI/EPI programs.
  • Previous work experience with international organizations is a plus.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in oral and written Pashto/Dari.
  • Good command of English, both oral and written.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze and report data.
  • Familiarity with DoPH, PHC, and HMIS reporting.

Organizational Capacity:

  • Ability to efficiently organize a Basic Health Center (BHC) and outreach sites, coordinate team members and beneficiaries, identify bottlenecks, and provide solutions.
  • Ability to work with community leaders to arrange clinic sites, access, and security.

Team Building:

  • Willingness to cover tasks of other team members when needed.
  • Good training and coaching skills.

Adaptability:

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Efficient planning skills and the ability to delegate or fill gaps when necessary.
