Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international, non-profitable, non-governmental humanitarian relief organization with its head quarter in Birmingham, UK. It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for International Red Cross and red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Descriptions:

HELP project is a multiyear (2024-25) and multi-sectoral (Health, Livelihood, and Youth Development) intervention of the Islamic Relief Worldwide that targets vulnerable communities in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Balkh, and Kabul provinces. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Program Implementation, and with the support of Area Managers, the Project Manager will be responsible for leading, implementing, and managing the HELP project effectively and efficiently in the above-stated provinces.   

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare project implementation work plan, and ensure the day-to-day management of the project activities and preparation of project budget review.
  • Close coordination with the project teams, area managers, and program coordinators for smooth implementation of the project in target provinces.
  • Collection and compilation of relevant background data and information about the project’s subjects, and compilation of reference and training materials.
  • Monitoring project implementation systematically through discussions and correspondence with the supervisor and several field visits, analysis of regular project progress reports, and participation in the evaluation of project impacts.
  • Promotion and strengthening of collaborative initiatives between the donor and relevant subclusters about the project’s activities and collaborations.
  • Participation and representation of IRW in meetings of the concerned subcluster on field and country office level.
  • Arrangement of programs for visiting experts, missions, and donor representatives to the sites of project activities.
  • Organization and participation in review meetings, donor meetings and provide orientation about the project to local communities and elders, and other stakeholders.
  • Elaboration of monthly and terminal as well as ad-hoc status and project progress reports of the project activities.
  • Maintenance of up-to-date records, files, and documentation of the project.
  • Facilitation of the final external independent evaluation mission of the project.
  • Performance of any other duties as required by management. 

Job Requirements:

Education and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Project Management, Rural Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, or Public Health. Or a Bachelor's Degree in one of the project intervention areas with extensive project management experience in rural setups.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in project management or team management in the development or humanitarian sectors.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and excellent knowledge of both country official languages (Pashto and Dari) are required.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate, both orally and written, with communities, public authorities, and donor agencies to improve coordination and solve implementation challenges.
  • Ability to manage time, plans, budgets, and other related tasks and adequately function in a high expectancy and demanding situation.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office application

Travels

This position is based in Kabul with frequent travel to Balkh, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Kandahar, and Bamyan.
