Afghan Community Research & Empowerment Organization for Development (ACREOD) was founded in 2010. The organization is registered with the Ministry of Economy under license number 1723. ACREOD is a 14-year-old national organization working to fight poverty and social injustice in Afghanistan, focusing on empowering women and girls. We work with communities to understand the roots of poverty and find innovative, local solutions. ACREOD seeks to demonstrate the results and methods used in our projects to ensure transparency and accountability and improve the quality of work.

 

Job Descriptions:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Vulnerability and Risk Assessments:
    • Conducting comprehensive assessments to identify the vulnerabilities of the local water and sanitation systems to climate-related hazards such as floods, droughts, sea level rise, and extreme weather events.
    • Analyzing the potential impacts on water availability, water quality, wastewater treatment, and overall service delivery.
    • Mapping critical infrastructure and assets that are at high risk of climate-related damage or disruption.
  2. Adaptation Planning and Implementation:
    • Developing climate adaptation strategies and action plans to enhance the resilience of water and sanitation systems.
    • Identifying and prioritizing climate resilient technologies, infrastructure upgrades, and operational changes required.
    • Securing funding and resources to implement adaptation measures, such as flood-proofing, water conservation, and decentralized wastewater treatment.
    • Coordinating with urban planners, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate climate resilience into water and sanitation system design and management.
  3. Emergency Preparedness and Response:
    • Establishing early warning systems and contingency plans to manage climate-related emergencies like water shortages or wastewater system failures.
    • Collaborating with disaster management authorities to ensure effective coordination during crisis situations.
    • Training staff and the community on emergency response protocols and resilience best practices.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building:
    • Engaging with diverse community stakeholders, including marginalized groups, to understand their needs and priorities.
    • Providing technical assistance and training to local government staff, utility operators, and community members on climate resilient water and sanitation solutions.
    • Facilitating dialogues and collaborative processes to foster shared understanding and collective action.
  5. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Developing performance indicators and monitoring systems to track the effectiveness of adaptation measures.
    • Evaluating project outcomes, documenting lessons learned, and sharing best practices with other communities.

Collaborating with research institutions and networks to advance the state of knowledge on climate resilient water and sanitation.

 

Job Requirements:

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • University/College degree
  • a minimum of 2 years of continuous professional’s experience in the relevant field.
  • Good Administration organizational and management skills and good leadership qualifications.
  • Good political knowledge of context.
  • Good report/proposal writing skills.
  • Language: Fluent in English Pashto and Dari (spoken and written).
