Job Descriptions:

We are looking for an experienced Mental Health Therapist to conduct assessments, diagnose mental health disorders, and develop personalized treatment plans for the families under our care. The applicant will provide counseling, therapy, and support to individuals, groups, and families, helping them address and manage their mental health concerns. Their goal is to improve their patients’ well-being and help them lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

 

1. Education and Licensure

  • Master’s degree or higher in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Or relevant licensure or certification to practice as a Mental Health Therapist.
  • Additional certification in trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), or psychosocial support is a plus.

2. Experience

  • Proven work experience as a Mental Health Therapist or in a similar role, with at least 3-5 years of clinical experience providing therapy or counseling services.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations such as refugees, trauma survivors, or conflict-affected communities.
  • Familiarity with community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programming.

3. Specialized Skills

  • Proficiency in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and culturally sensitive approaches to mental health.
  • Strong assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning skills, particularly with populations affected by trauma, displacement, or poverty.
  • Ability to deliver both individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Relevant training and/or certifications in therapeutic modalities such as CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex concepts in clear, accessible language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and trust with beneficiaries.
  • Empathy for clients, especially those in vulnerable or high-stress situations, and the ability to provide a safe and supportive environment.
  • Fluency in oral and written Dari and Pashto is required, with proficiency in English a plus.

5. Ethical Standards, Confidentiality, and Compliance

  • Strong commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and handling sensitive information with the highest level of discretion and professionalism.
  • Thorough knowledge of, and compliance with, PESAH (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment) policies, non-discrimination policies, and safeguarding standards.
  • Commitment to ethical clinical practice and safeguarding vulnerable populations, including adherence to relevant local laws and international humanitarian standards.

6. Consulting and Capacity-Building Experience

  • Ability to work as an independent consultant, managing time effectively and delivering results under pressure.
  • Experience conducting workshops or training sessions to build capacity among staff or community members in mental health awareness, psychosocial support, and well-being.
  • Experience advising or designing mental health programs or interventions for NGOs.

7. Adaptability and Problem-Solving

  • Ability to work in unpredictable or stressful environments, with the flexibility to adjust therapeutic approaches based on local constraints and cultural considerations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt interventions to meet the needs of the beneficiary population.
