About Organization of Human Welfare (OHW):

The Organization of Human Welfare (OHW) is a non-governmental organization and is non-political, not-for-profit, and impartial organization with no bias towards a particular religion, ethnicity, or political belief. It has its own independent legal status and entity. OHW is operating since 2007 in the country with active membership with the national clusters and international donor agencies in Afghanistan including SWABAC, ACBAR, AICS, BAAG, AWN and most of the national and international Clusters operates based in Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

The Child Protection officer is responsible to assist the Provincial project coordinator to implement and monitor all the projects undertaken by OHW in Faryab province especially the Holistic and Community-based Child Protection System Strengthening project. She/he will work closely with the field staff and directly under the Provincial project coordinator s/he will report to the Provincial project coordinator. The protection officer must be well-organized, disciplined, accountable, committed, trustworthy, focused, self-motivated, capable of self-managing and responsible. S/he must be a good communicator, patient and a good educator in explaining project activities to the junior staff. The Protection officer must have a very good understanding of the child protection and general protection and development sector as she/he will implement all field activities in coordination with the Provincial Project Coordinator. She/he will also be responsible to represent OHW at regional and local level providing the training and coordination meetings to Governmental, International, UN or NGOs institutions when the Provincial Project Coordinator is not present in the region/office or on her/his request. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the planning, organizing and implementation of Holistic and Community Based Child Protection System Strengthening project of OHW that will be implemented through direct delivery to communities.
  2. Adhere full compliance of project operations with OHW rules, regulations and policies, implementation of corporate operational strategies, establishment of management targets and monitoring the achievement of results.
  3. Responsible to follow absolutely binding the anti-corruption policy of OHW in all operations.
  4. Establishment of healthy relationship and working arrangements with project stakeholders to ensure a transparent and correct communication with all stakeholders.
  5. Represent OHW in various meetings at provincial level.
  6. Assist with fiscal management, planning, follow-up expenditure, reporting systems and internal control mechanism in the project.
  7. Assist with capacity building of project staff in close coordination with Provincial Project Coordinator.
  8. Assist with lessons learnt/best practices, and sound contribution to OHW knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  9. Ensure regular monitoring of projects are carried out, provide feedback and corrective actions to the findings as well as ensure that these findings are strictly followed up.
  10. Provide support to the Provincial Project Coordinator in program quality, overall coordination, protection and monitoring of field works.
  11. Developing, providing and promoting child protection and child rights materials.
  12. Submitting daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports to Provincial Project Coordinator.
  13. Undertake regular field visit on program quality and provide recommendations and feedback on field team performance considering roles and regulations of OHW, Donor and Government.
  14. Establishment of community and school-based groups such as CBCPNs, CGs, Student council and PTSA.
  15. Establishment of community center in coordination with center facilitator and social workers.
  16. Conduction of various trainings for CBCPNs, CPAN, Staff, Children groups, Center facilitators, Parents, Employers, Students councils and PTSA.
  17. Review program documents, reports and detailed implementation plans to ensure that child protection issues and child rights approaches are integrated.
  18. Regular visits to the assigned field to participate and facilitate CBCPNs and CPAN monthly meetings and informal meetings.
  19. To participate and facilitate weekly and monthly meetings with staff to review the detailed implementation plan (DIP) of project.
  20. To participate in all formal and informal meetings of children, parents and community leaders monthly and quarterly meetings.
  21. Initiate community dialogues to expend community awareness and trainings.
  22. Conduct induction meetings with families, teachers, communities and other stakeholders to establish community mechanisms.
  23. Initiate needs assessment to find the exact needs of the community center and maintenance.
  24. Referral of children (15-18 years old children) to vocational/apprenticeship opportunities based on their interest and abilities.
  25. To monitor the vocational training and income generating activities process.
  26. Facilitating the distribution of material and toolkits during the project period.
  27. Compile and generate the training reports conducted in provinces.
  28. Provide technical support to child protection team, report and document all project related activities.
  29. Any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

  1. A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, child development, or a related field.
  2. Previous experience working in child protection or related fields, preferably in humanitarian settings.
  3. Strong knowledge of child protection principles, child rights, and international standards.
  4. Familiarity with the cultural context and dynamics of Faryab Province is highly desirable.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with children, families, and community members.
  6. Ability to work effectively as a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  7. Fluency in English and Pashto or Dari is required, both written and spoken.
  8. Ability to work in challenging and remote environments, with a flexible and adaptive approach.
