About Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation And Recreation (AABRAR):

AABRAR is a local Afghan non-government organization concerned with the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of disabled people and other vulnerable groups into the community.

Founded in 1992, AABRAR began a bicycle-training program for amputees to improve mobility and increase their independence, enabling them to travel to and from work, and save on transportations costs. Since then, AABRAR has expanded its activities  to  offer  a  range  of  services  to  vulnerable  people,  designing  special programs for women and children to address their needs. Programs include physiotherapy and health care, bicycle training, vocational trainings, numeracy and literacy classes, mine awareness, Education, health education, Livelihood, WASH and various sporting activities. AABRAR also works in the area of social development, helping to raise awareness of the rights of disabled people within Afghanistan and dispel negative attitudes towards disability.

AABRAR has widened its beneficiary classification to include other vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans, unemployed people, youth, ex-combatants, and street children, so as to reach those people most in need of assistance.

Job Descriptions:

1. Purpose of the Position:

  • The Physiotherapist Teacher will be responsible for teaching Modern Physiotherapy to the selected trainees in Ghor Province planned activities under the GIZ/AABRAR grant.
  • The position holder will closely work with project beneficiaries to provide beneficiaries with capacity-building and physiotherapy modules.
  • He / She will be directly supervised by the Project Manager/Supervisor for day-to-day work and getting the updates of the Training.

2. Reporting line:

  • The post holder will establish good working relationships with project stakeholders such as Directorate of Public Health, GIZ, and community members.

3. Specific Responsibilities:

The main areas of accountability and responsibility of this post are to provide physiotherapy training to the selected trainees in the designated province (Ghor). Details are below.

  • Preparation of teaching schedule with support and approval of project supervisor.
  • Support capacity building of trainees.
  • Support in the development physiotherapy training materials.
  • Preparation of teaching plan, implement, and preparing exam papers.
  • Preparation of teaching materials according the physiotherapy curriculum.
  • Delivery of training using various teaching methodologies in order to conduct effective training sessions which specific required on the methods of modern PT curriculum design by Ghazanfar Institute.  
  • Demonstration of handling techniques to students.
  • Demonstration of the authentic approach with patients to students when is required.
  • Exam planning and preparation (midterm and final exam) through consultation with the course coordinator.
  • Appropriate recording and filing of student’s exam results considering IHS format.
  • Identification of the additional coaching needs of individual students.
  • Allocation of work time to address individual coaching of all students.
  • Prepare training opportunities and scheduling of learning sessions.
  • Find adequate cases for the students to practice.

 

4. Practical Responsibilities:

  • Manage the time to oversee all trainees equally.
  • Ensure effective trainees communication and interaction with patients that is suitable for their needs.
  • Keep records of the trainee’s performance on daily basis.
  • Provide feedback to trainees on practical sessions by the end of each day.
  • Provide hands on coaching and handling correction for trainees while working with patients.
  • Provide immediate feedback to the trainees if the patient is at risk.
  • Consider cultural and gender sensitivity as well as professional ethics to guide trainees for their clinical practice.

 

  • 4. Managing of teaching materials equipment used for teaching purpose:
  • Safekeeping of teaching materials.
  • Ensure students use the training manuals based on the curriculum.
  • Maintain teaching materials active, usable and practicable.
  • Perform other job related tasks as assigned by the course coordinator.
     
  • 5. Administrative support to the project:

  • Manager, control and record keeping attendance of trainees on a daily basis.
  • Physiotherapist teacher is obliged to attend meetings, workshops or any seminars related to the training when organized at same province or at Kabul.
  • Attending internal and external meetings which are relevant to the project activities.
  • Submit training document records which include student attendance sheets, examination results, clinical practice outcome/scores to the course coordinator. 

Job Requirements:

  • 3 years’ physiotherapy diploma graduate
  • Having 2-3 years’ professional experience as physiotherapist
  • Good coordination skills and dealing with government entities, institutions, and communities.
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written) and understanding of English and local languages, and also have the skill of minor conflict resolving and negotiation.
  • Computer proficiency in Ms. Office Packages (MS Window, Word, PPT, Excel, Access).
