In countries affected by conflict and war, Women for Women International (WfWI) supports the most marginalized women to earn and save money, improve health and well-being, influence decisions in their home and community and connect to networks for support. By utilizing skills, knowledge, and resources, she is able to create sustainable change for herself, her family, and community.

Since 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) has helped nearly 500,000 marginalized women in countries affected by war and conflict. We directly work with women in several countries (including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan and Palestine), offering support, tools, and access to life-changing skills to move from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency.

Purpose

The Translator will primarily provide English to local language (Dari and Pashto) and Local Language to English translation of correspondence between women program participants in Afghanistan and their sponsors in the US and other countries. The Translator will occasionally translate additional basic documents for the organization.

Engagement     

Translate organizational documents as needed.

Participation in different kinds of meetings.

Delivery

Translation:

1. Written translation of letters between participants and their overseas sponsors.
2. Translate stories about program participants.
3. Written translation of documents (i.e. reports, scripts, focus groups, questionnaire, contracts, letters, etc.) from English to local languages (Pashto and Dari) and vice versa.
4.  Proofreading and editing different documents for printing
5.  Translating audio and video files from local languages (Dari/Pashto) into English.
6. Interpretation in meetings, workshops and trainings conducted in English language whenever needed.
7.  Translating and revising translations of all types of text from English to Pashto/Dari and vice versa.
8. Any other duties assigned by Supervisor or Country Director

• Bachelor’s degree in literature preferably in English literature, journalism, communication, or any other relevant field.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a Translator and interpreter.
• Certification in English language and Translation is must. ‎
• Strong English to local language skills as well as local language to English written translation skills for non-technical documents.
• Ability to edit and improve translation.
• Knowledge of computers in particular Microsoft Word.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
