Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic, and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 500,000 children to go to school and learn and supported over 33,000 caregivers to set up businesses so they can afford the cost of educating their children.
CiC/ Street Child is inviting applications for the role of Education Project officer (based in Kabul) who shall be responsible for managing ongoing Education Projects. The incumbent shall be responsible for project planning, coordination and implementation, knowledge management and representation, stakeholder management and other project implement related responsibilities.

Specific Responsibilities:
Project Management: Lead the management and implementation of integrate education and child protection projects according to the CIC policy, work plan and budget. Ensure the success of the project meeting its objectives, outcomes and aims as set out in the project proposal.
Team management: Supervise and support a team community mobiliser and teachers; prepare weekly and monthly work-plans and report on their activities and ensure the project team is in regular coordination and communication with all project stakeholders. Follow up with team members on staff progression and support team members with professional development.
Financial Management: Oversee project budget and financial monitoring; ensure compliance against donor reporting requirements; prepare financial reports and budget forecasts and realignments when necessary, in coordination with CiC Finance Manager.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Supervise the M&E Officer and ensure each project has an up to date and effective M&E plan in accordance with the project log frame and indicators. Review data collection processes and compile and analyze data with project planning and tracking tools. Review data to inform project development and readjustment, when necessary.
Donor Reporting: Manage internal reporting deadlines to HQ and other reports to donors, including UNICEF, US State Embassy and OCHA; review the success and challenges of the projects; and report to Head of Programs / Country Director any challenges faced in in achieving the project’s expected results.
Relationship Management: maintain existing positive working relationships with relevant government ministries, including Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA); child protection stakeholders; international donors; and NGOs and local civil society.
Knowledge Management and Representation: Actively participate as a CiC Representative at relevant education meetings, including the Education in Emergencies Working Group.
Other Responsibilities:
To develop appropriate materials and tools in order to promote knowledge among project team.
To develop the quality of the education programme matrix including monitoring and supervision of CBE, teacher training courses, life skills training, and other child rights activities.
To ensure quality of the project through regular field visits, technical follow ups and evaluations.
To analyse the education data and share analytical reports/recommendations with Head of Programs/Country Director on improving qualitative aspects of the education projects.
To liaise and collaborate with local authorities and community stakeholders as per needs.
To coordinate with Head of Programs and Country Director on project design, development, and monitoring and evaluation approaches.
To ensure compliance of education activities with government laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
To conduct field visits, conduct gaps and need analysis exercises as appropriate, and feedback information to CiC management at country office level.
To attend weekly and monthly staff meetings and share learning across the organization.
To carry out duties entrusted to him/her impartially and in accordance with the best professional practices.
To maintain complete independence in relation to all individuals, organisations and government bodies.
To observe strict neutrality with regard to views and opinions, particularly in the field of politics, religion and ethnicity.
To respect all laws and regulations in force in Afghanistan.
To respect all confidential information and not use it for personal profit or for the profit of a third party while executing the present contract.
To report any fraud, abuse or neglect related to a CiC project or activity to Head of Programs / Country Director in writing.
To assist in any other areas as identified by Head of Programs / Country Director.
Experience and Knowledge:
A minimum of bachelor’s degree preferably in Education, social science, Social work, development studies, Psychology, Law and Political Science and/ or any other relevant field. Masters or additional certification in the field is a plus point.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience of education Project planning, coordination and implementation within an international or national NGO and a strong track record of working with and inspiring teams to achieve results.
Sound knowledge and understanding of financial management, including preparation of budgets, financial reports and ongoing monitoring of expenditure is a strong plus point.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in report writing skills.
Proven knowledge on community-based education, accelerated learning, education in emergencies, psychosocial support and life skills, and child rights-based programming in Afghanistan.
Experience in delivering training to teachers, social workers and community mobilisers.
Proven knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluation.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to deal with different rural communities, ability to take initiatives, and pursue work proactively without being intensively supervised.
A flexible approach to working and willingness to work as part of a team.
Good supervisory, leadership, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
ICT Skills including skills in using the Microsoft Office Package.
