Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. AFGA is a fully accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and an important partner of UNFPA.

A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.  

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Communication Manager, the Communication Officer is responsible to capture the areas of work related to the UNFPA mandate for communication and partnership purposes. The products including designs, photos, videos, stories, and other communications products will be used to illustrate publications, websites, newsletters, and institutional magazines as well as the media and other partners on request as a resource to portray the work of UNFPA in Afghanistan. The [communications officer] need to follow AFGA and partner agencies’ communications and photography guidelines in the development of his/her assignment.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Travel regularly to the program implementation locations in Kabul and throughout the country to develop communications and visibility content such as photos, stories, videos, quotes, and interviews of the project beneficiaries, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Develop and produce visual and written storytelling packages about AFGA projects. Provide materials for the factsheets, newsletters, brochures, reports, documents, presentations, and others as necessary.
  • Create visual content and infographic products for distribution and publication on AFGA digital media platforms.
  • Supports the AFGA Communications Department with the development and design of public awareness campaigns, materials for national/international events, and products for social and behavioral change communication (SBCC).
  • Supports the Communication Department in the monitoring of the communications work of AFGA projects delivered by the implementing partners in the field.
  • Support and accompany field missions of the production companies for capturing the work of AFGA and partners agencies work in the service delivery points.
  • Develop compelling human-interest stories that demonstrate the result of AFGA and partner agencies’ work in the area of reproductive health, humanitarian assistance, PSS, youth and etc.
  • Compile and edit the reports including monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in English, Dari and Pashto both oral and written, in a clear concise manner;

  • Accountability: takes ownership of all responsibilities and commitments; delivers outputs within prescribed timeframes, cost, and quality standards; operate in compliance with organizational regulations and rules;
  • Proficiency in the usage of computers and office software packages;
  • Demonstrates integrity by modeling the UN’s values and ethical standards;
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and strategic goals of AFGA and partner agencies;
  • Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality, and age sensitivity and adaptability;

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or any other related field;
  • At least five years of experience in the communications field such as photography, designing, storytelling, and reporting;
  • Excellent Designing Skills;
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely is crucial;
  • Ability to regularly travel to Afghanistan’s provinces;
  • Must possess a solid understanding of development issues in Afghanistan;
