Tasks & Responsibilities
Objective 1 - Project Coordination
● Implement and execute the project timeline for P3 projects and P3 contributions.
● Lead research, and internal communications processes.
● Manage project fi nances, and reporting, and liaise with fi nance and admin teams in line with SH processes.
● Ensure timely submission of deliverables and manage invoicing processes.
● Handle client interactions and manage internal/external communications related to assigned projects as needed.
● Lead client presentations, focusing on data fi ndings and quantitative analyses.
● Maintain and coordinate an effi cient system of data sharing, ensuring secure and organised data uploads for all project-related data.
● Regularly report project progress to P3 pillar lead and required to report to all units (operations, HR/admin, fi nance).
Objective 2 - Research and Data Analysis
● Oversee quantitative data collection, ensuring rigorous daily monitoring and effective communication with clients and fi eld teams.
● Address and resolve challenges during data collection to maintain high data quality and consistency.
● Enhance the quality of fi eld documentation, such as interview notes and reports, emphasising clarity and reliability of data.
● Train fi eld teams and colleagues on project cycle management, evaluation standards, and best practices in data collection and harmonisation.
● Coordinate fi eldwork logistics and resource allocation, ensuring effi cient data collection processes that adhere to harmonisation standards.
● Lead Research and Planning Teams (RPT)
● Supervise, manage and train research assistants with a focus on enhancing their quantitative analysis skills.
● Lead the analysis of quantitative data, contributing to report writing, and dissemination of fi ndings.
● Design research tools, and research methodologies and produce outputs as requested.
● Undertake ad hoc data analysis for projects under other pillars.
Objective 3 - Pillar and Operational Support and Process Oversight
● Provide essential support to the Pillar and other pillars as requested.
● Provide essential support to the Operations team on surveys and data collection as requested.
● Oversee project boards within the pillar, uphold accountability to internal processes, maintain high standards and adhere to organisational policies.
● Act as a liaison between Samuel Hall and various stakeholders to understand their data needs, tools, and systems, offering guidance on improving data collection methodologies and harmonising indicators across projects.
● Offer training sessions and workshops to partners and internal teams on optimising their data collection tools and extracting meaningful insights from their datasets, with a focus on practical applications of data analysis techniques.
● Contribute to the development of a Data network within the sector, by attending relevant events and actively engaging in BD activities.
● Contributions to proposals as required.
● Liaise and organise cross-pillar support and collaboration.
This position best suits individuals with a solid background in the humanitarian / development sector, and/or international development research. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifi cations:
Research
● A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, International Development, Political Science, Economics, or a related fi eld. A minimum of 3+ years of relevant professional experience is preferred.
● Exceptional writing abilities in English, with a knack for distilling complex technical fi ndings into clear, accessible language for diverse audiences.
● Demonstrated quantitative research and advanced data analytics expertise, with profi ciency in R, Python, Stata, or similar statistical software.
● Strong skills in Excel.
● A meticulous eye for detail combined with the initiative to communicate proactively.
● The capacity to manage workload effectively, accommodate occasional irregular working hours, and adhere to strict deadlines.
Stakeholder engagement, liaison and capacity building
● Proven experience or a keen interest in understanding and enhancing data quality and systems across different actors within the humanitarian and development sector.
● Ability to represent the organisation in various forums, advocating for high data standards and system optimization.
● Capacity to liaise with multiple stakeholders to understand their data management needs and to provide guidance on improving their data collection tools and systems.
● Willingness to conduct training sessions and workshops aimed at enhancing partners' and teams' abilities to harness the full potential of their data through harmonisation and effective analysis techniques.
● A commitment to being based in Kabul, working closely with diverse actors to foster a collaborative approach towards improved data quality and system integration in the humanitarian and development landscape.
Desirable:
● Familiarity with quantitative data collection techniques, including the challenges and methodologies involved.
● Experience integrating quantitative and qualitative data into cohesive narratives, showcasing mixed-methods research capabilities.
● A strong foundation or keen interest in socio-economic research, particularly in areas related to international development, migration, and displacement.
● Profi ciency in advanced data visualisation techniques, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and dashboard creation.
● Proven ability to work effectively in a remote setting as part of an international team.
