Job Descriptions:

Position Summary/ Job Purpose:
The MHPSS Trainer will be responsible for conducting comprehensive psychosocial counseling training for counselors based on the "Professional Psychosocial Counseling Training Package for BPHS Clinics in Afghanistan" (بسته آموزشی حرفه ای مشاوره روانی اجتماعی برای مشاوران روانی اجتماعی موظف در کلینیک های BPHS در افغانستان). The trainer will ensure participants gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and effective intervention techniques to enhance psychosocial service delivery within BPHS clinics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a six-day intensive training program covering essential MHPSS topics.
  • Conduct theoretical and practical training sessions based on the standardized MHPSS training package.
  • Facilitate interactive and participatory learning experiences, including case studies, role-playing, and group discussions.
  • Assess trainees' knowledge and competencies before, during, and after training to measure learning outcomes.
  • Provide individualized technical guidance and mentorship to ensure skill development.
  • Prepare and submit a detailed training report, including participant feedback, performance evaluation, and recommendations for follow-up support.
  • Coordinate with the Health Department to ensure that training content is aligned with BPHS guidelines and national mental health policies.
  • Ensure a gender-sensitive and culturally appropriate approach in training facilitation.

Training Topics Covered:

The six-day training program will include, but is not limited to, the following modules:

  1. Introduction to MHPSS – Overview of mental health and psychosocial support, including BPHS guidelines.
  2. Common Mental Health Disorders – Understanding depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other prevalent conditions in Afghanistan.
  3. Counseling Techniques – Core counseling skills, active listening, and building trust with clients.
  4. Psychosocial Interventions – Practical interventions for trauma, stress management, and emotional support.
  5. Case Management and Referral Pathways – Identifying severe cases and ensuring proper referral to specialized services.
  6. Self-Care and Burnout Prevention – Strategies for psychosocial counselors to maintain their own mental well-being.

 

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in psychology, social work, mental health, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in MHPSS training, preferably within the BPHS framework.
  • Strong knowledge of the Professional Psychosocial Counseling Training Package used in Afghanistan.
  • Experience in adult learning methodologies, participatory training techniques, and competency-based assessments.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Dari and/or Pashto; knowledge of English is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Afghanistan’s health system, particularly mental health services under BPHS
