Shelter for Life International (SFL) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit and international faith-based organization. It has been working in Afghanistan since 1998 and is presently managing long-term and short-term humanitarian and development programs to the people in need in countries around the world. SFL is currently operational in Afghanistan, Liberia, South Sudan, Senegal and Tajikistan. Our Headquarters is located in Minnetonka, MN and funded by multiple donors such as BPRM, USG, USDA and WFP. SFL has rich experience and provides assistance in the following areas; Agriculture Development, Food Security, livelihood and emergency, Shelter and Population Settlement, Application of Microcredit, Infrastructure Development and Health and Nutrition.

Job Descriptions:

Agronomist officer is responsible to directly oversee the agricultural development project activities at the targeted areas at men/women beneficiaries in the selected project sites, as well as to provide general agronomical oversight of all agricultural activities for the project, provides training manuals to female agriculture assistant in order to present for engaged female beneficiaries as well as for men, if needed, regular monitoring from under SAMS, SSVC and other project activities in excellent manner, and prepare weekly progress report to project manager for effectiveness and well-being of activity implementation, to ensure that the project activities are being implemented correctly based on the supervision plan.

Job Requirements:

  • Having good behavior with community people especially with beneficiaries.
  • Agronomist or agricultural worker is obliged to identify and confirm the merits of agricultural occupations before distributing agricultural materials, vegetables, poultry or livestock.
  • Agronomist is obliged to measure agricultural items and materials before distribution according to a given entitlement.
  •  Agronomist is responsible for the loss or misuse of WFP/ SFL agricultural materials.
  •  Agronomist is obliged to send the detailed report and information to the office of the SFL before going to the area, He/she is responsible to make daily plan and at the end of the day of the process, survey, distribution and conducting of workshops should report to the office.
  • Agronomist is obliged to conduct agricultural workshops and training programs in horticulture, narcissism, poultry and livestock in order to increase the capacity of interested persons, monthly as necessary with the understanding of the leadership of the institute, and provide information about its proper implementation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program leadership (Project Manager).

Qualification/ Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.
  • 4 to 5 years relevant work experience in the field of Agriculture with NGOs, INGOs or UN agencies.
  • Computer skills at the operator level, especially with MS Office packages.
  • Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto, both written and spoken.
  • Ability or experience in the field of community driven development projects monitoring
  • High attention to detail, effective time management skills, strong work ethic, a willingness to learn new skills, and the ability to be a self-starter.
  • Having strong report writing skills.   
  • Experience in planning, reporting and budgeting.
  • Good communication skill and able to pass the massage/questions in local languages to the respondents.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and ability to plan work.
  • Supervisory, team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Regional and cultural knowledge of areas of SFL field operations in Afghanistan
  • Willingness to work long hours when required
  • Ability and willingness to travel to the project sites and outside of duty station within Afghanistan and adjust to the SFL environment as frequently as required
  • Honest, proactive, well mannered, and must share values of SFL.
  • Willing to stay in field locations
  • Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment
