Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose : 

The Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for leading the Afghanistan nutrition team and providing technical support and capacity building to successfully plan, implement and monitor International Medical Corps’ nutrition projects and activities in Afghanistan.

The Nutrition Coordinator must have the ability to organize and support all aspects of the nutrition program including coordinating with relevant actors, nutrition cluster, technical working groups and UN agencies.

The Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the nutrition projects in the country are of good quality and implemented in accordance with international humanitarian standards and donor guidelines. He/she will work closely with the Deputy country director, Program development team and other technical coordinators to provide input into proposal development, donor reports and country level strategies as required.

Main Duties & Responsibilities : 

  1. Program management and coordination
  • Lead all nutrition program initiatives by providing technical oversight and ensuring quality standards are met in accordance with global standards and donor requirements. 
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to the field nutrition officers and nutrition manager
  • Evaluate the progress and impact of nutrition activities through regular field visits, data analysis and review of reports
  • Ensure all the data collection tools are being used for all nutrition activities and that they are being updated regularly and routinely; review the tools to ensure the projects are on track.
  • Ensures all activities are being implemented in accordance with their approved budgets and works closely with the nutrition manager and project coordinator to find ways to improve operational efficiency on an on-going basis.
  • Ensure IMC is an active member of the nutrition cluster at national and regional/provincial level, as well as the various technical working groups.
  • Coordinate with WFP and UNICEF at both National and Provincial level to ensure availability of nutrition supplies for SAM and MAM treatment.
  1. Program Development
  • Identify potential nutrition and nutrition-related projects, liaise with program development team
  • Identify existing project implementation gaps and address any issues with the program development team and project coordinator
  • Analyze data from nutrition activities and provide inputs to be used for quality assessment and improvements in overall program quality
  1. Capacity Building
  • Ensure all IMC and global nutrition standards and protocols are up-to-date and well understood by all the nutrition staff, that they are trained and mentored on these standards, as well as held accountable to them.
  • Provide on-job training and mentorship sessions to all nutrition staff
  • Represent International Medical Corps in national and provincial coordination meetings, provide minutes to supervisor
  • Assess training needs of nutrition staff, develop a training program for staff in order to address any gaps
  1. Reporting
  • Responsible for overall collection of good quality data within all nutrition projects, data analysis and interpretation, and use of collected data for day-to-day management of the nutrition activities; ensure the nutrition team collects good quality data and is capable to use the data for monitoring and maintaining good quality implementation
  • Ensure all WFP/UNICEF weekly and monthly reports are submitted as per set timelines
  • Ensure all data is updated in the National Nutrition database monthly
  • In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation staff, review field implementation plans, Program Management tools (PMT) and assessment/surveys to ensure quality and timely reporting
  • In collaboration with the program development and Nutrition team, assist in writing proposals and reports as needed or required

Qualifications :
