Job Descriptions:

1. Background

The Rolling Mill Operator plays a critical role in the steel/metal manufacturing process, operating machinery to roll and shape metals according to specifications. Effective control and supervision of the operator ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in production.

2. Objective

The objective of this ToR is to outline the responsibilities, supervision mechanisms, and performance monitoring standards for the Rolling Mill Operator to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the rolling mill.

3. Scope of Work

The Rolling Mill Operator shall:

  1. Operate the rolling mill equipment according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  2. Monitor machinery for proper functioning and report any anomalies.
  3. Control process parameters such as temperature, speed, and pressure to achieve required product quality.
  4. Maintain accurate records of production data and operational logs.
  5. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance as per guidelines.
  6. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including the use of PPE.
  7. Coordinate with supervisors and quality control personnel for product inspection.
  8. Assist in troubleshooting operational issues and implement corrective actions.

Job Requirements:

4. Responsibilities

  • Control and Monitoring: Regularly check operational parameters to prevent defects or machine breakdowns.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure rolled products meet dimensional and metallurgical specifications.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout during maintenance.
  • Reporting: Timely report production issues, downtime, or hazards to the supervisor.
  • Documentation: Maintain operational logs, shift reports, and maintenance records accurately.

 

5. Supervision and Reporting

  • The operator reports to the Rolling Mill Supervisor or Plant Manager.
  • Performance monitoring includes:
    • Compliance with SOPs and safety procedures
    • Product quality and consistency
    • Machine uptime and efficiency
    • Incident reporting and corrective actions implemented

6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Production targets met per shift/day.
  • Percentage of defect-free products.
  • Number of unplanned machine stoppages.
  • Compliance with safety standards.
  • Timely submission of operational reports.
