About Action Against Hunger:

Action Against Hunger/Action Contre La Faim (AAH/ACF) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was created in France in1979. AAH/ACF has been active in Afghanistan in the medical, nutrition, food security, and water and sanitation fields since 1995.AAH/ACF improved access to health and nutrition services for the most vulnerable people, who live in remote areas without a localhealth system. In particular, the country team supported pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five, who are atgreater risk of malnutrition. Nutrition programs rely on an integrated approach, addressing both primary and underlying causes, inorder to have a lasting impact on nutritional status. The country team worked at community level, in villages and at provincial level,strengthening the public health system. It also worked at national level to ensure reliable information about the nutritional situation reached the wider humanitarian community. Covid-19 prevention was integrated into all interventions and additional responseactivities were implemented, such as the disinfection of health facilities and public places, cash assistance, psychosocial support andthe distribution of hygiene kits to affected populations.

Job Descriptions:

Purpose of the Position

  • The Vegetable Processing trainer will work under the direct supervision of FSL Technical supervisor for the purpose of providing technical training on various methods of vegetable production and processing to the project beneficiaries or selected trainees in the duration of 6 months trainings in line with the objectives of livelihood component under UN-Women funded project implementing by ACF in Helmond province.
  • The trainer will be responsible for delivering hands-on practical sessions that enable selected beneficiaries to produce value-added products from their home-grown or trade vegetables, contributing to both food preservation and market-oriented production.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • To facilitate and participate in the beneficiaries/trainees selection considering to the specific selection criteria, under the direct supervision of FSL Technical Supervisor.
  • To support the FSL Technical Supervisor in conducting needs assessments & identify training requirements among the target groups.
  • To support the FSL Technical Supervisor in preparing training materials, manuals, and visual guides in local languages.
  • To deliver practical training sessions on vegetable processing such as drying techniques, pickling, jam and sauce making, adding value, canning, fermentation, and packaging (70% practical, 30% Theory)and using participatory and culturally appropriated methods .
  • To demonstrate vegetable processing techniques such as washing, sorting, peeling, slicing, blanching, drying/dehydration, processing and safe storage.
  • To provide awareness sessions on hygiene, food safety, and nutritional value of processed vegetables.
  • To provide technical information for preparing vegetable raw materials and toolkit for the beneficiaries.
  • To guide and supervising the practical work of trainees to develop the vegetables processing skills.
  • To have the ability to link the trainees particularly women with the local market. 
  • To collaborate with local agriculture extension agents, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • To provide post-training mentoring and technical support to trainees, especially those interested in starting small-scale processing businesses.
  • To work practically with trainees via training sessions over the 6 months and to graduate the trainees as skilled in vegetable processing.
  • Responsible to ensure trainees are attending the training sessions, appropriately trained, supported and have access to required resources. 
  • To conduct practical test/exam for the trainees to assess the past delivered tailoring skills and providing the feedback and instructions.
  • To communicate with FSL technical supervisor and support him on the activity reporting especially developing departmental and sector reports during and in the end of training sessions.
  • To document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned for reporting and knowledge sharing.
  • To carry out any other official tasks assigned by the FSL technical supervisor, FM, FC

Job Requirements:

Qualification/level of study:

  • The formal education is not always required but High school graduate is preferable. 
  • Certification in food processing (vegetables and fruits) are also encourage to apply.
  • 14th graduate or University degree in Agriculture or Food Science, business development and business administration.
  • Having high experience in vegetable processing will be an asset

 

Skills required:

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of practical experience in vegetable processing, food safety training, or related fields with in the NGOs context of Afghanistan.
  • Experience in working with rural communities, especially women and marginalized groups.
  • Ability to design and deliver context-appropriate and culturally sensitive trainings.

 

Required Skills:

  • Willingness to travel to rural areas and conduct field-based activities.
  • Strong knowledge of local market and business development
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication & negotiation skills
  • Enhanced mobilisation skills

 

Languages:

  • Fluent in Pashto & Dari (Witten, spoken, Read).
  • Basic in English (Witten, Spoken, Reading).
