Green Social Research Organization (GSRO) is a national, women-led non-governmental organization established in 2015 and registered with the Ministry of Economy under registration number 3612. Headquartered in Herat Province, GSRO has extensive experience implementing humanitarian and development programs across western Afghanistan, including Herat, Badghis, Farah, Ghor, and Nimrouz.

GSRO focuses on protection (GBV prevention, MHPSS, and referrals), women’s economic empowerment, climate-smart agriculture, emergency response, and research. The organization works closely with women, girls, IDPs, returnees, and other vulnerable groups through gender-responsive, rights-based, and community-driven approaches. GSRO maintains strong institutional systems for program quality, accountability, safeguarding, and compliance with donor and national requirements.

Job Description

The Field Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, supervising, and ensuring effective field-level implementation of the UN Women–AHF funded project in Herat City. The role is critical to ensuring timely delivery of activities under tight donor timelines, which is why this position is recruited through a fast-track process to enable immediate project mobilization and compliance with UN Women implementation schedules.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day field implementation of project activities, including GBV awareness, MHPSS services, referral support, and women’s livelihood interventions (poultry farming, mushroom cultivation, and VSLAs).
  • Lead community outreach, sensitization, and coordination meetings with local authorities, shuras, and community leaders to facilitate access and acceptance.
  • Lead and manage the MoU process with relevant sectoral ministries (including coordination, follow-up, and documentation) in close collaboration with GSRO management.
  • Support beneficiary identification, vulnerability assessment, and verification processes in coordination with MEAL staff.
  • Supervise and support field staff, volunteers, and community facilitators to ensure activities are implemented according to plans and timelines.
  • Ensure field activities comply with GSRO policies, UN Women requirements, and de facto authority (DFA) procedures.
  • Coordinate logistics and operational arrangements for trainings, distributions, and community sessions.
  • Monitor field progress, identify risks or delays, and report regularly to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure timely and accurate field reporting, documentation, and data submission in coordination with the MEAL team.
  • Promote accountability to affected populations, including awareness of complaint and feedback mechanisms at community level.

Job Requirements:

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant field experience in humanitarian or development projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating community-based activities and managing field teams.
  • Good understanding of protection principles, GBV-sensitive programming, and community engagement.
  • Experience working on livelihoods, protection, or women-focused programs is an advantage.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in culturally sensitive and restrictive environments.
  • Fluency in Dari required; Pashto is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of English is an asset.
