Muslim Hands Afghanistan – MHA obtained formal registration from the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan with registration No. 141 in 2005, and is now firmly established with its Headquarters in Kabul, and is fully engaged in relief and development activities in different parts of the country. The work of Muslim Hands in Afghanistan involves; improving the lives of poor and vulnerable through the provision of education, health, WASH, Protection, Livelihood, advocacy, Agriculture and other specialized projects in food security, water purification and sanitation schemes, orphan sponsorship scheme, income generation activities and emergency aid / relief activities in Afghanistan. Muslim Hands Afghanistan aims struggling its way to build a secured society through its core competencies including Health, WASH, Education, Emergency Relief, Food security, Livelihood and Protection. Muslim Hands Afghanistan was formed by a group of professionals and today it is blessed with +100 members include men, women and youth from different skill sets including medical professionals, Program and operation experts, and other professionals in non-profit sector. Muslim Hands Afghanistan is working under the effective leadership of nine national and international members of its board of trustees.

About the project:

Muslim Hands Afghanistan (MH AFG) is implementing a poultry farming project in Bamiyan province aimed at improving local agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and enhancing livelihoods for small-scale farmers. The project focuses on sustainable farming practices, capacity building, and livelihood betterment. To ensure its successful implementation and effective training of beneficiaries in poultry farming, MH AFG is looking to hire a well-experienced Poultry Farming Trainer.

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Field Manager the Poultry Trainer will mainly be responsible for developing comprehensive training material and conducting 2-3 days of training for a number of 100 male and female beneficiaries of the project during which participants will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to sustain the home-based poultry farming. The objective of these trainings is to enable beneficiaries to run and manage their enterprises ensuring their sustainability and profitability. The specific scope of work includes but is not limited to the bellow-listed activities:           

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive and easy-to-understand training material/manuals in local languages;
  • Create awareness among beneficiaries about the poultry farm's standard design, farm direction in cold and warm areas, and the optimum dimension of the farm for open sheds;
  • Deliver training on poultry farm management, placement preparation for chicks, brooding, and post-placement checks of chicks for feed and water consumption;
  • Deliver training on the use of common-sense during chicken checking, lighting, and ventilation.
  • Train the staff on feeding and watering, balanced ration nutritive value, proper storage, the physical form of feed, and normal potable water quality for poultry;
  • Assist and train beneficiaries on best practices regarding poultry farming to improve the quality and quantity of their poultry production;
  • Train and demonstrate biosecurity standard operational procedures (SOPs), which include dead bird disposal, explaining potential routes for exposure to disease, and important steps for cleaning and disinfection;
  • Demonstrate and practically practice vaccination, precautions for all vaccines, the success of the vaccination, water vaccination, and intraocular vaccination procedures;
  • Deliver training on the common causes of vaccination failure and demonstrate practically the postmortem of the bird;
  • Also provide some insights on the factors influencing the profitability of the farmer, the role of chicks, feed quality, and farm management;
  • Develop training material (Chapters) and visual aids to increase understanding of the training subject by participants;
  • In coordination with the Project Officer, mobilize beneficiaries and divide them into training batches;
  • Develop training plan, and participants list, and conduct pre-and post-training assessment;
  • Share all the soft training data with the Line Manager or HR department.  
  • Develop and submit training completion report.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in Livestock/Animal Husbandry/Poultry or Veterinary Science;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills;
  • Good knowledge of adult learning and training;
  • Capacity to effectively communicate and interact with trainees;
  • Good analytical skills and ability to present coherent and convincing positions both in writing and orally;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in delivering poultry farming training;
  • Proven ability to effectively solve problems and respond quickly to changing environments;
  • Have a good technical and theoretical knowledge of poultry principles and fundamentals;
  • Have good knowledge of local context, values, norms, and traditions;
  • Has at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience in poultry training;
