Program Description: The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Job Purpose
Plan, organize, and assess activities within their area of responsibility and the associated team, in
accordance with Jhpiego values, policies, MLMCC health standards, to ensure quality and continuity of
healthcare.

Key Accountabilities
Midwives offer guidance, care, and assistance for women and their partners and families before, during,
and after childbirth. They assist women in making their own decisions about the care and services they
receive. Additionally, they provide care for newborns, offer health education, and provide parenting support
for the first 28 days. Midwives are directly responsible for the health of both mother and child and only
refer to obstetricians in cases of complications.
• Perform specialized functions and tasks as needed to make the best use of resources and contribute
knowledge and experience.
• Implement all protocols and hygiene procedures and ensure that the team follows these standards to maintain the quality of care and service.
• Manage the decentralized pharmacy and medical equipment, including drug orders, stock monitoring,
storage conditions, inventory management, tracking expired drugs, disposal, and drug consumption to efficiently meet department material needs.
• Provide regular feedback to the Midwife head and report any issues or incidents directly.
• Perform hands-on tasks as part of the team to optimize resources and contribute knowledge and
experience.
• Participate in MLMCC/hospital monthly meetings and MNDSR committee meetings.
• Collect daily reports from staff (midwives, interns, and registration books).
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports and share with the midwife head.
• Provide timely and useful solutions for challenges as needed.
• Track information for each individual client of MLMCC.
• The MLMCC midwife supervisor is at the same level as the midwife.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Registered Midwife, bachelor’s degree is preferred
• Five-year experience in similar position desirable
• Good communication skill both in writing and oral in Dari/Pashtu essential
• Communication skill in English oral and written desirable
• Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others in a team environment
