The head office of the organization is in Kabul, Afghanistan, and delivers humanitarian services in the sectors of Livelihood, Good Governance, WASH, and Emergency through its four regional offices in Mazar, Herat, Jalalabad, and the central zone in a decentralized manner.

Job Descriptions:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of livestock-related interventions in collaboration with project staff and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to livestock keepers on improved animal husbandry practices, including feeding, breeding, healthcare, and disease prevention.
  • Conduct regular visits to project sites to assess the health and condition of livestock, identify challenges, and provide on-the-spot advice and solutions.
  • Facilitate establishing and managing community-based animal health services, including vaccination campaigns, parasite control, and veterinary care.
  • Assist the project team in selection of appropriate locations for inputs distribution and veterinary services.
  • Advise livestock owners on disease control and animal husbandry methods.
  • Provide training to project staff and Extension Workers on animal husbandry.
  • Ensure that project beneficiaries are trained on proper cattle management and animal husbandry practices.
  • Assess the farmers' current practices and provide guidance on how to correct any issues that may limit productivity.
  • Advice and take active part with regards to beneficiary selection, site selection, supplier selection, and other activities.
  • Coordinate with other programs/ projects operating in the livestock sector in the province.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions, workshops, and demonstration activities to promote the adoption of sustainable livestock management practices.
  • Collaborate with veterinary, government/DAIL extension workers, NGOs, and other stakeholders to strengthen veterinary services and disease surveillance systems.
  • Assist in the procurement and distribution of inputs, such as feed supplements, veterinary medicines, and breeding stock, to project beneficiaries.
  • Collect and analyse livestock production, health, and market trends data.
  • Ensure the integration of gender and social inclusion considerations in all livestock-related activities.
  • Assist field staff in conducting beneficiaries’ surveys.
  • Solve local technical livestock issues where possible and report ongoing problems including outbreaks of disease and livestock mortality.
  • Providing weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the project management.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

Required Education degree:

  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary science or Doctor of Veterinary Medical (DVM) or related field.
  • Master’s degree in above discipline will be given preference.

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of working experience in related field.
  • Preference will be given to those who have hands on experience with respect to livestock farms, farmers training and the provision of extension services in related field.
  • Have experience in livestock projects with donor funded organization.
  • Familiarity with conduct of livestock analysis, market analysis, and livestock marketing are desirable.

Skills:

  • Candidate must have competencies in communicating in English and local languages.
  • Well-developed reporting skills – both narrative and financial reporting.
  • Ability to provide technical supervision motivates, train and develop project staff.
