About MEDAIR:

Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district.  The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.

An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.

Job Descriptions:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical:

  • Establish and oversee all support functions at the designated Medair Suboffice, ensuring seamless coordination with the support team in Nili.
  • Manage the base and project warehouses, including issuing stock items as requested and arranging transport to field sites when needed.
  • Cultivate clear communication and strong relationships with suppliers and other relevant stakeholders in the area to facilitate effective project support.
  • Act as the security focal point for the project district, diligently reporting incidents and ensuring strict adherence to Security SOPs.

 

General:

  • Promptly report any suspected fraudulent activity involving staff or external parties.
  • Uphold Medair’s core values and actively contribute to the team’s well-being and cohesion.
  • Comply with Afghan NGO Law and Tax Law requirements.
  • Adhere to all NRS regulations and Security Standard Operating Procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality.

 

Logistics:

  • Manage the warehouses in the field base for base and project stock
  • Issue stock according to stock requests, carry out monthly physical inventory
  • Prepare weekly and monthly stock reports
  • Coordinate between logistics team and field project team to ensure the stock levels are kept up to date
  • Procure items as needed in the local market
  • Follow procurement procedures and logistics procedures for all project purchases and for base maintenance.
  • Oversee that fleet requirements are being followed (incl. logbook, daily vehicle checks)
  • Equipment management for all field office equipment.

 

Facility management:

  • Maintenance of office compound in consultation with the landlord.
  • Work together with the guards to ensure the office is secure at all times

 

HR and Financial management:

  • Forecast the cash needs for the field office and raise PDFs accordingly
  • Act as a focal point for finance-related matters in the field location.
  • Act as a focal point for HR-related matters in the field location.

 

Coordination

  • Security focal point of field location. Report any security concerns to Project Coordinator and take action when required to keep the team safe.
  • Participate constructively in team meetings.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, administration or other relevant subjects is required. Higher degree is preferable.

Work Experience: At least 4 years of post-qualification work in a similar position is required. Experience working with an INGO/prior experience at Medair are advantages.

Languages: Good English and Dari language skills (written and oral) is required and will be tested in the interview and excellent in English is desirable. 

Computer: Good skills with MS Word and Excel, experience using scanners, copiers, and file naming systems is required and excellent in MS Office skills is desirable.

Motivation: Enthusiastic to work for and represent an INGO, to assist vulnerable communities.

Team building: Able to motivate staff to work together supportively and creatively, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to manage disagreements among staff in ways that promote resolution is required. Cross-culture experience and good record of teamwork is desirable. 

Adaptability: Able to work independently (with minimal supervision) , able to manage time efficiently to meet deadlines and open to change.

Technical expertise: Analytical and solution-oriented, systematic and organized in daily work.

Management & Leadership: Pro-active, initiative-taker, honest and reliable personality.
