Job Descriptions:

Job Summary: 

The Psychosocial Counsellor plays a crucial role in providing vital psychosocial support to individuals and communities within WAW's service area. This position will lead the planning and delivery of Psychosocial Support (PSS) activities, including Psychological First Aid (PFA) and individual and group counseling sessions.

Psychosocial Counsellors will be stationed at the Women Community Center or join mobile teams on a rotational basis for activities conducted through mobile interventions.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct needs assessments and develop appropriate psychosocial support interventions.
  • Plan and coordinate psychosocial support activities, including community outreach and mobilization.
  • Develop and implement a robust referral system in collaboration with other service providers.
  • Implement and monitor the effectiveness of psychosocial support activities.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to individuals and communities affected by trauma, conflict, or other stressors.
  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals in crisis situations.
  • Support in planning and providing children, youth and adults with a focus on women and girls in culturally and age-appropriate manner, safe and stimulating non-structured as well as structured PSS activities such as recreational activities, sports and games and life skills activities.
  • Support in establishing social networks through engaging with communities to support traditional community structures and support groups.
  • Conduct community outreach and awareness-raising activities on mental health and psychosocial well-being.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in relevant events and forums as needed.
  • Support in raising awareness regarding the availability of MHPSS and protection services.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of client interactions and program outcomes.
  • Maintain records, with adherence to data protection policy and confidentiality principles, of clients’ information.
  • Support in compiling monthly reports to provide information on activities conducted, topics discussed, challenges faced with and mapping of MHPSS existing services.
  • Collaborate with other team members and community partners to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Uphold ethical principles in all aspects of work, including maintaining and adhering to the recommended treatment protocol, maintain and processing of persona data, confidentiality, and obtaining of consent for any data transfer (on the need-to-know basis).

Working Modality:

  • Psychosocial Support activities will be provided at the community centers, health facilities, or through mobile teams, this shall include individual and group counselling as well as supporting community-based initiatives and activities to strengthen psychosocial support and wellbeing.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors in psychology, or trained by MOH, or received accredited training by IPSO
  • Accredited training certificate in psychosocial counseling or health social counselling is highly desirable 
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience (years of accredited training is counted)
  • Fluent in both Pashto and Dari
