Health, Disability and Development Organization (HDDO) is a national nonprofit and nonpolitical organization which has been registered with Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan in 07 January 2020 with the aims to advocate, promote and facilitate the Economic empowerment, socioeconomic reintegration, Physical rehabilitation, provision of health, education and livelihood support to the most marginalized, hard to reach and underserved population of the Country including person with disabilities, victims of war, mine  and ERW in Afghanistan. HDDO is committed to play active role in the humanitarian response to the neediest population in the Country and at the same time to contribute in the development and reconstruction of the Country as well. The vision of HDDO is to Promote and sustain educated, prosperous, peaceful, gender and disability sensitive society, where people, especially women, disabled and youth have access to better healthcare, disability and physical rehabilitation, play a key role in inclusive and sustainable development and to make sure that every and each of them is an active member in the societies. The HDDO main principle is the community based inclusive approaches to involve local communities and the target group in the design, implementation and monitoring of the project and that is why HDDO is fully relying on local resources and local capacity in the targeted communities.

Job Description:

The Ortho Technician is responsible for the assessment, repair, casting, referrals, follow-up, monitoring including advice to the person with disabilities and victims of war and conflict who need of physical rehabilitation, Assistive devices, prosthetic and Orthotic. This includes the following obligations and responsibilities;

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To help disabled people by the production of orthopedic devices after the thorough assessment and prescription
  • Assessment of the patient, prescription of the appliances together with physiotherapist
  • Costing, molding and finishing of the artificial limbs and appliances (P&O)
  • Contribution to the gate training of patient after they receive appliances
  • Keep record of all patients and beneficiaries  
  • Provide awareness and basic training to Community Health workers or helper in basic Orthopedic services for the referral purposes 
  • Technically assist project manager in preparation of the list for orthopedic workshop and mobile rehabilitation unit material and tools and other needy material
  • Take care of machineries and tools of orthopedic workshop and mobile unit
  • Participate in the Project weekly meetings.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and annually statistic and narrative report of the Physical rehabilitation activities
  • Any other duties commensurate with level as instructed by line manager
  • Provide 50% support to the person with disabilities through mobile rehab unit
  • Follow ethical and professional standards in carrying out all duties
  • File all the related data and information sheet and records

Qualification:

  • Graduated from GIHS of Ministry of Public Health or Ministry of Higher Education recognized training department with 2-3-year diploma
  • At least one years working experience either in the Physical Rehabilitation Centre or in the Community Rehab center
  • Familiarity with the health system of the country, in particular on the availability and accessibility to physical rehabilitation services
  • Interest in working with victims of war through outreach and home based approaches to reach to those victims who need physical rehabilitation, and willingness to travel to remote areas
  • Good communication skills in Pashto and Dari, and ability to write reports. Knowledge of English is an advantage

Experience:

1-2 years’ experience in the relevant field

  • To be able to use essential computer Programme for the project purpose
  • To be able to work alone or as part of a team. 
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of person with disabilities.
