About AWEC:

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminating violence against women.

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The agriculture specialist will be responsible for the proper implementation, supervision, and reporting on agriculture activities, successes, setbacks, and plans. S/he is also responsible for providing technical guidance and support to community development workers/ leader farmers and government agriculture extension workers involved in the agriculture activities of the project.

Job Description:

  • Be responsible for maintaining and strengthening relationships with key partners, especially with the Department of Agriculture Irrigation, and Livestock at provincial and district levels. 
  • Ensure that the implementation of the agriculture component/ activities of the project is technically sound.
  • Be able to estimate the income benefits to families using improved technologies
  • Provide necessary technical resources to support project implementation
  • Develop training materials, deliver technical training, and manage the logistics and finance administration activities in the agricultural activities of the project. 
  • Work as the primary link to ensure the lead farmers in the Field Farmer School are equipped with cost-effective and affordable technologies and knowledge in the agriculture sector.
  • Support the AWEC Project Officer to prepare and submit quality and timely Monthly Progress Reports and ad-hoc reports by providing technical inputs.
  • Assist in the implementation, follow-up, and reporting related to agriculture and processing facility, value chain activities, market linkage, creating community self-help groups, saving groups, and creating Disaster Risk Management Plan and support its funding.
  • Support the establishment of Field Farmer Schools, Demonstration Plots, pilot cold storages, seed management, weeds management, applying fertilizers, usage of chemicals, etc.
  • Support the identification of key beneficiaries for agriculture kits, and animal kits, and facilitate the distribution of agriculture, animal husbandry, and poultry support materials. 
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor and AWEC senior management.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Agriculture diploma/degree Essential
  • Ability to coordinate several projects and manage staff
  • Good time management and scheduling skills
  • Ability to work within and meet donor deadlines and reporting requirements (e. quarterly report
  • Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills and detail orientation
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to maintain performance and exemplary lifestyle expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments, and physical hardship conditions with limited resources Essential
  • At least 4 years’ experience working with INGO and NNGOs in rural community development and agriculture (Horticulture and NRM) development, climate change, and similar context.

  • Ability to establish working relations with target communities
  • Strong Interpersonal and leadership skills, as well as a team player
  • Knowledge of community inducing.
  • Evaluation and monitoring of the Training program
  • Proven reporting skills
  • Decision-making skills that are most appropriate to specific situations and immediately
  • Ability to develop implementation plans with a logical framework as well as develop monitoring and evaluation tools and processes to ensure that set goals and targets are achieved
  • Fluency in written and spoken Dari and Pushto languages and English is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of the intervention zones
