Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for leading and management of the Harm Mitigation, project.  He/she will be controlling four provincial health teams and project activities at Nangarhar, Logar, Balkh and Samangan province. Also, He will lead the coordination with Provincial Public Health, departments, ministry of economy departments and other relevant authorities and stakeholders at provincial level. He/she will communicate with national and international stakeholders and will support AFGA on fund raising, by providing data, make assessments and coordinate with local stakeholders. The field coordinator is senior position and representing AFGA at provincial level, he/she will need to attend sectorial meetings, create and maintain good and professional relations with institutions and stakeholders.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Project Coordinator will specifically be responsible for the followings:

Project management

  • Responsible for overall management of the harm mitigation project including planning, design and develop strategies and implementation of the project activities in line with the project agreed resources and at given timeline.
  • Regularly assess project progress against objectives, utilizing indicators and metrics to ensure accountability and transparency.
  • Address contractual and technical programmatic issues and work with functional units to prepare modifications and negotiate changes with the stakeholders or clients.
  • Develop effective working relationships with clients, counterparts, and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the project activities.
  • Co-ordinate closely with the project donor to ensure effective contract management.
  • Drive customer satisfaction with on-time delivery, exceptional performance, and with full accountability.
  • Ensure necessary resources are provided to meet program requirements, directing, controlling, and ensuring procurements are made in accordance with AFGA procurement policies.
  • Monitor the program’s progress against the contract and organizational goals and objectives, and ensure they are consistently and adequately met.
  • Manage day-to-day performance of Mobile Health Clinics, FHHs and other SDPs of the project  to ensure quality performance and compliance with contract and organizational requirements.
  • Manage staff performance and lead evaluation, performance discussions, propose increases, etc.
  • Ensure staff receive regular constructive performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and time and opportunity to grow.
  • Promote staff development through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional growth opportunities.
  • Resolve staffing and resourcing challenges through creative and cost-effective approaches that are within budget.
  • Provide technical, financial, and operational direction and oversee program implementation to ensure on-time delivery of the contract scope of work, and seek opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Support the development of program deliverables and perform high-level reviews and quality control to ensure timely reporting.
  • Conduct supervisory programmatic site visits to ensure the team is on track and the program is meeting the clients’ expectations.
  • Responsible for reporting all the project activities as per agreed timeline and formats (to donor and to stakeholders)
  • Closely follow TPM (third party monitoring) findings and make sure findings are well addressed
  • Organize briefing and awareness-raising sessions for staff and community members on emergency preparedness and SRHR-related topics.
  • Conduct training courses for youth and community leaders, aiming to empower them to advocate for SRH services and preparedness measures within their communities.

Financial management:

  • Manage project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and compliance with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Review finance department reports and or prepare comprehensive reports outlining project activities, outcomes, and financial expenditure for stakeholders and management.

Reporting:

  • Design and develop reporting formats for project team
  • Review and combine filed team reports
  • Design and submit quality report to donor as per agreed time frame and format
  • Report to line agency as per their requitements and practice 

Any other assignments duty might be assigned by the line manager as per NGO or donor requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Graduated from a well-known medical university with completion of MoPH exit exam (if applicable).
  • Holding a Master of Public Health degree is a plus point.
  • MD (Medical Doctor) degree is a must
  • Over 7 years of experience in project management or coordination within the health sector for MD degree holder and at least 5 years of experience for master degree holders at health projects, particularly in SRH or humanitarian projects.
  • Proven experience in capacity building, training facilitation, and community engagement.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and management skills.
  • Excellent and very strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management software and MS Office Suite.
  • Fluency in English and local languages
