AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world

Job Summary:

AFGA is hiring trained/ qualified FHH nutrition and PSS counselor for its FHHs in Herat province different districts, The FHH Nutrition and PSS counselor. Under direct supervision of the FHH supervisor, the FHH nutrition and PSS counselor will be responsible for PSS and nutrition services provision both in soft and in kind to the FHHs clients particularly to women in the Child Bearing Age and children. The FHH nutrition and PSS counselor responsibility included but not limited to, the position holder will provide key nutrition messages to pregnant and lactating women, and caregivers, screening under five-year-old children and pregnant and lactating women for SAM and MAM cases. Consulting pregnant and lactating women on breastfeeding, and registering and recording all cases correctly and completely. In addition, she will provide health services to the client in case of main midwife’s unavailability.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Growth monitoring of all under two years of children and registering them.
• Proper nutritional counseling for pregnant and lactating women and mothers of all under two years children on appropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices.
• Conduct anthropometric measurements (weight, height, and age), MUAC, and edema of all under-five children.
• Classification of all under-five children in the category of well-nourished, Moderate
• Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
• Refer to proper services based on classification to address nutritional status.
• Regular standard Nutrition education provision to all FHH clients particularly pregnant and lactating women.
• Conducting regular food demonstration sessions for the FHH coverage area clients.
• Taking part in CHW monthly meetings and ensuring nutrition issues are supported.
•  Identify beneficiaries who require follow-up visits and share information with CHSs/CHWs
• Maintain regular reports to monitor and track delivery of nutrition services.
• Providing RH services through FHHs in case of backup needed for the FHH main midwife.

• Graduated from a well-known Psychosocial and midwifery institutes and completed the MoPH exit exam.
• At least 2 years of working experience in the field of nutrition and PSS services with national and international NGOs.
• Attended basic nutrition training, particularly MYCN
• Ability to develop activity plans and reports.
• Fluent in local languages (Pashto and Dari).
