AWEC has successfully implemented projects in Logar, Faryab, Kapisa, Khost, Panjshir, Wardak, Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan provinces, maintaining an active presence in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan.

Job Descriptions:

AWEC seeks a senior-level Program Embedded Advisor to enhance the quality, coherence, and donor alignment of its programming. The advisor will work in a non-supervisory, advisory capacity to support program manager through strategic guidance, systemic review, and capacity strengthening.

Operating part-time, the advisor will not be involved in routine program operations, but will focus on high-impact areas such as donor compliance, program strategy, and audit readiness. This embedded role enables close collaboration with department lead and executive management to drive long-term institutional growth and donor confidence.

Responsibilities:

Conduct a strategic assessment of AWEC’s; Program design and delivery systems, Donor engagement processes and compliance mechanisms, Organizational strategies and fundraising approaches.

Provide strategic weekly mentorship to Program Manager and leadership on donor engagement, compliance, and program development.

Support improvement of internal decision-making processes for program planning and resource utilization at a strategic level.

Identify gaps or inconsistencies and recommend strategic improvements.

Advise on revising and strengthening the organization’s fundraising strategy.

Provide strategic input on major grant proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest.

Guide the development or refinement of tools and systems for improved grant management and reporting.

Share briefing notes and strategic insights to inform leadership decision-making and organizational development.

Expected Deliverables:

Initial review report with findings and key recommendations.

Capacity-building plan for Program Manager.

Advisory input on selected proposals or strategic documents.

Revised templates or systems for donor compliance and program management.

Weekly reports on mentoring sessions.

Final report summarizing interventions and sustainability measures.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

A Minimum of Master’s degree in International Development, Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Project Management, law and political science and/ or a related field.

A Minimum of 10 years of experience in program development, donor engagement, or organizational advisory roles in the development/humanitarian sector.

Experience working with institutional donors (e.g., USAID, UN agencies, EU, etc.) and understanding their compliance and reporting frameworks.

Knowledge and Skills:

Proven track record in mentoring senior program staff or executive leadership.

Demonstrated ability to conduct systemic reviews of organizational processes, documents, and policies.

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.

High-level communication and interpersonal mentoring capabilities.

Deep understanding of policy development, fundraising strategies, and donor trends.

Ability to work independently and flexibly while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.

Strong report-writing and presentation skills.
