About Women's Activities & Social Services Association (WASSA):

Women Activities & Social Service Association (WASSA) was established in 2002 in Afghanistan as a non-governmental organization, committed to seeking ways for women's empowerment in Afghanistan. WASSA aims to promote women's equal participation in socio-economic sectors of the country. WASSA works directly with communities to bring change in the social attitude of the community regarding women.

WASSA is launching a three-month emergency response project to support returnees in Herat province, including Islam Qala border, Guzara, Injil, and Herat City. The project focuses on addressing urgent needs in food security and health, particularly for vulnerable returnee families. The interventions are including of the hot meals distribution cooked through the community kitchens, cash-for-food assistance for vulnerable households, and the operation of a Health Center (CHC/BHC) in Injil district to ensure access to primary health services.

The Psychosocial support counselor will be responsible to provide psychosocial counseling services in accordance with professional standards in individual and group form for client’s outpatient health facilities supported by ACJR-DRA/CARE project, through diagnosing mental problems and preparing them for treatment, in close coordination with relevant health facility staff in Jaghartan CHC located in Injil district.

2. Key Responsibilities

1. Providing individual and group psychosocial counseling services for clients and patients in Jaghartan CHC – health center.
2. Being active in relation to awareness and psychological education for clients and patients of the designated in Jaghartan CHC – health center.
3. Provide one-on-one counselling sessions to individuals experiencing psychological distress or trauma.
4. Implementation of all duties in accordance with the ethical standard of psychosocial counselor
5. Active participation in monitoring meetings with the Health Supervisor and CHC staff.
6. Continuous teamwork with health workers, doctors, midwives and nurses in CHC.
7. Registering all the information of the clients and consolidating its documents, registering cases, and writing cases in a special book and form, and ensure data privacy and confidentiality.
8. Setting up open awareness groups at the level of the comprehensive health center.
9. Launching awareness programs to identify and encourage psychosocial patients to seek treatment only at the level of health facility.
10. Coordination with doctors and other health staff in the mental health activities.
11. Coordinate with midwives to provide basic counseling services to the clients which may require.
12. Facilitate the referral of the cases needs higher level of psychosocial support services.
13. Ensure PSS - IEC material is available in the CHC health center.
14. Ensure PSS health education session is part of the CHC health education schedule.
15. Ensure using the MoPH approved PSS guideline for the counselling.
16. Support outreach workers to identify children & their families mainly the returnees to be part of CHC.
17. Maintain daily counselling schedule with children/family/Health Shura, within the health facility.
18. Provide group counseling and psychosocial support sessions based on identified needs, including peer support, parenting sessions, or psycho education to share their experience or feeling.
19. Liaise with outreach workers on health center follow up in the field.
20. Promote the availability of counseling services and carry out, individual or group counselling psychosocial support (PSS), basic psycho educational sessions to returnees in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties.
21. Provide monthly report to the relevant department the disaggregate data based on the type, gender and age to medical doctor, health supervisor and in case it is requested by HMIS unit.
22. Having a file in the health facility to record all monthly, quarter and annual summary of the PSS data.
23. Any other duties assigned by direct supervisor.
