RRSWO (Rah-e-Rahnaward Social Welfare Organization), is a Non-Governmental and Non-Profitable organization established in 2011 with registration no.( 3482) with Ministry of Justice and later registered with Ministry of Economy in 2019 (4865) as historic opportunity to jump-start

progress for women and girls in Afghanistan. RRSWO acts on the fundamental premise that women and girls have the right to live a life free of discrimination, violence and poverty, and that gender equality is central to achieving development with reach, sizable expertise and significant resources. For too long, women have been forced to stand on the sidelines, whether the issue is political leadership, safety in conflict zones, protection from violence or access to public services. Now women must come to the centre as leaders, advocates and agents of change.

The Psychosocial Counselor (PSC) will be responsible for providing emotional and psychosocial support to Afghan returnee households participating in the Emergency Support for Afghans Returning from Iran project in Ghor Province. The PSC will conduct individual and group counseling sessions, identify and refer individuals with severe mental health or protection needs, and promote psychosocial well-being within the community.

Working closely with the Project Officer, community representatives, and local service providers, the PSC will ensure that all psychosocial support activities are delivered in a culturally sensitive, confidential, and professional manner consistent with humanitarian and protection standards.

 Key Responsibilities:

1. Psychosocial Support and Counseling

• Provide individual counseling and emotional support to returnees experiencing stress, trauma, or adjustment difficulties.
• Conduct group sessions focused on coping strategies, stress management, and family well-being.
• Identify vulnerable individuals (e.g., survivors of violence, people with disabilities, single-headed households) and provide appropriate psychosocial first aid.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure ethical practice in all counseling activities.

2. Community Awareness and Sensitization

• Organize and facilitate awareness sessions on mental health, psychosocial well-being, and protection-related topics (e.g., domestic violence, child protection, gender-based violence).
• Promote community understanding of mental health and reduce stigma through culturally appropriate messaging.
• Work with community leaders, elders, and Shuras to encourage referral and community participation in psychosocial activities.

3. Referral and Case Management

• Identify and refer individuals requiring specialized mental health, medical, or protection services to appropriate service providers.
• Maintain an up-to-date referral pathway and establish strong working relationships with local NGOs, DoRR, and health service providers.
• Follow up on referred cases to ensure appropriate and timely support.

4. Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

• Maintain accurate, confidential case files and counseling session records.
• Prepare regular reports on psychosocial activities, identified needs, and recommendations.
• Contribute to project learning by documenting success stories, lessons learned, and community feedback.
• Support post-assistance follow-up to assess well-being and coping of assisted households.

5. Coordination and Teamwork

• Coordinate with Project Officer, Emergency Response Assistants, and other team members to ensure integrated support to beneficiaries.
• Participate in staff trainings on safeguarding, psychosocial support, and protection principles.
• Attend coordination meetings and share relevant updates with the field team.

• Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in psychosocial counseling, MHPSS, or protection-related work in humanitarian or community settings.
• Experience in working with vulnerable populations, including returnees, IDPs, and women and children.
• Experience facilitating awareness sessions and community outreach.
• Familiarity with case management and referral mechanisms in Afghanistan preferred.

 Skills:

• Strong understanding of psychosocial principles, stress, and trauma coping mechanisms.
• Excellent communication, listening, and empathy skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with professionalism.
• Culturally sensitive, patient, and respectful of community dynamics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data recording tools.
• Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto required; basic English preferred.
