BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key humanitarian issues; and strengthen the humanitarian sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities. BBC Media Action delivers a portfolio of humanitarian projects in Afghanistan on a variety of themes including AAP/community engagement, nutrition, health and education.

Job Descriptions:

Overall purpose: 
The Producer/Production Coordinator will work as part of BBC Media Action’s production team in Afghanistan. S/he will be responsible for the overall coordination of the project which includes recording and editing a radio drama, arranging the actors for the drama recording, liaison and coordination with partner radio stations to broadcast the content and arranging on line meetings between local journalists and experts from the education sector on key thematic issues.  S/he will also be responsible for tracking the project deliverables and reporting against these.

Main Duties & responsibilities: 

  1. Record and edit short audio dramas (5–7 minutes).
  2. Manage the end-to-end production process for radio dramas.
  3. Coordinate actor scheduling for rehearsals and recordings; ensure scripts are distributed.
  4. Prepare and rehearse drama segments to ensure smooth delivery and strong performance.
  5. Collaborate with the Senior Producer and team to incorporate feedback into final content.
  6. Edit, mix, and enhance audio to produce polished, high-quality drama content.
  7. Maintain organized multimedia asset collections, including audio files and scripts.
  8. Ensure all content meets BBC technical, editorial, design, and accessibility standards, and complies with Health & Safety policies.

 Media support.

  1. Arrange online meetings between local journalists and education experts.
  2. Facilitate online meetings.
  3. In discussion with the BBC Media Action and the experts, set the agenda for the meetings.
  4. Ensure the meetings follow ethical and editorial standards,
  5. Manage sign in sheets for the sessions

             Administration

  1. Manage administrative tasks related to program production and scheduling.
  2. Developing tracking sheets to track drama production.
  3. Arrange contractual arrangements for the project including actors, scriptwriters, and broadcast partners.
  4. Ensure services are delivered in line with contractual agreements.
  5. Prepare payment packages for invoices.
  6. Support the registration process for the project.
  7. Support budget management
  8. Attend and support meetings with other partners and donors.
  9. Ensure all content meets BBC technical, editorial, design, and accessibility standards, and adhere to Health and Safety policies.
  10. Develop and manage positive working relationships with staff and contributors, providing constructive feedback.
  11. Undertake any additional production and administrative duties as requested by the line manager

           Reporting:

  1. Arrange and lead to regular project meetings.
  2. Write a draft narrative report for the project activities.
  3. Track deliverables for the project to ensure in line with the log frame
  4. Keep management up to date on project progress.

 

Job Requirements:

  1. Minimum 5 years’ experience in broadcast or content production environments.
  2. Proven ability to produce and edit multimedia content for radio or digital platforms.
  3. Hands-on audio and visual editing tools such as but not limited to Adobe Audition and Adobe Premier 
  4. Strong understanding of Afghanistan’s political, cultural, and social context.
  5. Knowledge of the media sector.
  6. Experience working with actors.
  7. Understanding of budget management
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  9. Knowledge of online platforms for data storage and file sharing.
  10. Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto local languages) and good understanding of English Language.
  11. Awareness of or willingness to learn more about BBC Editorial Guidelines and the ability to put these into practice.
