Afghan Youth Services Organization (AYSO) is a National Afghan NGO registered in 2006 with the MoEc of Afghanistan with registration No:397.AYSO since came into being has developed, successfully implemented, and provided direct assistance services in different sectors such as health, educational, Food Security, Capacity building, GBV Prevention and Response, Peace, Justice Research, and Surveys human rights and awareness projects and programs with the technical and financial support of several UN Agencies such as UNDP,UNFPA, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO, AYSO has implemented projects with government ministries and departments as well as has been being implementing partner with AAH/USAID, FHI, BARC, AADA,HEWAD, and other National and International Organization.
Scope of Work:
The Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator at AYSO is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of health and nutrition initiatives, from designing project proposals—including needs assessments, budgeting, and stakeholder consultations—to leading the implementation phase, ensuring effective execution, monitoring, and evaluation. This role entails comprehensive management of the program's operational cycle, including strategic planning, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and reporting to senior leadership and donors. The coordinator will supervise a team comprising technical coordinators and project managers, providing guidance, performance evaluations, and capacity-building support to ensure alignment with organizational goals, compliance with AYSO regulatory standards, and the delivery of high-impact services aimed at improving health and nutrition outcomes in underserved communities.
Responsibilities:
Project Proposal Design: Lead the development of project proposals, including conducting needs assessments, preparing budgets, and facilitating stakeholder consultations to ensure proposals are comprehensive and aligned with organizational objectives.
Program Implementation Leadership: Oversee the execution of health and nutrition projects, ensuring timely rollout, effective coordination of activities, and adherence to planned timelines and quality standards.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track program progress, measure outcomes, and make data-driven adjustments for continuous improvement.
Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic plans for the health and nutrition program, identifying long-term goals, priorities, and innovative approaches to address youth needs in Afghanistan.
Resource Allocation: Manage the allocation of financial, human, and material resources to optimize program efficiency and ensure cost-effective delivery of services.
Risk Mitigation: Identify potential risks in program operations, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and Afghan regulatory standards.
Reporting and Accountability: Prepare and submit detailed reports to the Managing Director, senior leadership, donors, and relevant authorities, highlighting achievements, challenges, and financial accountability, while maintaining direct reporting lines to the Managing Director for oversight and decision-making.
Team Supervision: Supervise subordinates, including technical coordinators and project managers, by providing guidance, conducting performance evaluations, and offering capacity-building support to enhance team capabilities.
Stakeholder Engagement: Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community leaders, government bodies, and partner organizations, to support program sustainability and impact.
Impact Delivery: Ensure the delivery of high-impact services focused on improving health and nutrition outcomes for youth in underserved Afghan communities, promoting overall well-being and resilience.
Capacity Building and Training: Design and implement training programs for staff and beneficiaries to build knowledge and skills in health and nutrition practices.
Compliance and Ethics: Ensure all program activities comply with ethical standards, legal requirements, and AYSO's policies, including data protection and safeguarding measures.
Innovation and Adaptation: Promote innovative solutions and adapt program strategies based on emerging health trends, feedback, and lessons learned to enhance effectiveness.
The program coordinator must hold MD, preferably MPH as well as public health-relevant short and mid-term courses. He should have at least seven years of working experience in different fields of public health such as BPHS, EPHS, and other health projects implemented as vertical programs. He should have good knowledge and understanding of management, donor requirements, report writing, and coordination.
