Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician, under the overall guidance and supervision of the head of the health facility, ensures that all applicable pharmaceutical procedures are carried out in accordance with the AYSO Policies and Procedures Handbook.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure proper management of stock items, including FEFO and FIFO principles, use of near-expiry drugs, donation of unused near-expiry items, and proper disposal of expired items, as well as maintaining appropriate storage conditions.
  • Monitor pharmacy stock temperature and record it in log sheets and Log Tag.
  • Receive drugs, medical equipment, and medical materials.
  • Update stock cards promptly for all stock movements.
  • Ensure the prevention of stock-outs at the health facility.
  • Ensure that all drug distributions to other departments are processed according to AYSO stock management systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-managed stock according to standards.
  • Ensure all shipment waybills are properly signed, tracked, and filed.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the line supervisor or main office.
  • Promote and maintain the rational use of medicines at the health facility.
  • Conduct regular monthly physical inventory of base pharmacy stock.
  • Conduct quarterly physical inventory of medical equipment at the health facility level.
  • Ensure monthly physical inventory in accordance with AYSO Standard Operating Procedures (SoP).
  • Prepare monthly reports on distribution, consumption, reception, physical inventory, donations, expired items, and damaged goods for the line manager/Pharmacy Manager.
  • Analyze reports to identify gaps (shortages, near-expiry items, supply issues, discrepancies) and report them to the pharmacy officer.
  • Analyze drug consumption patterns and provide feedback to health facility staff.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized pharmacy institute (14 years of education completed); a Pharm-D degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills in pharmacy stock management and regulatory procedures will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in pharmacy management or dispensing services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated honesty and integrity.

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in Pashto and Dari (spoken and written).
  • Basic English (reading and writing skills for reporting).
