OHW is operating since 2007 in the country with active membership with the national clusters and international donor agencies in Afghanistan including SWABAC, ACBAR, AICS, BAAG, AWN and most of the national and international Clusters operates based in Afghanistan.

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Livestock Trainer is responsible for providing technical training and capacity-building support to livestock farmers and project beneficiaries. The position aims to improve livestock production, animal health, husbandry practices, and income generation through effective training, mentoring, and field support activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Training and Capacity Building

·         Develop and deliver training sessions on livestock management, animal husbandry, feeding practices, breeding, and animal health.

·         Conduct practical demonstrations and field-based training for farmers, livestock owners, and community groups.

·         Prepare training materials, manuals, handouts, and awareness-raising tools.

·         Assess training needs and tailor training programs to beneficiary requirements.

·         Provide continuous coaching and technical guidance to project participants.

Technical Support

·         Promote best practices in livestock production and management.

·         Provide technical advice on animal nutrition, housing, disease prevention, vaccination, and breeding.

·         Support beneficiaries in improving livestock productivity and reducing animal mortality.

·         Monitor livestock conditions and identify potential health and management issues.

·         Coordinate with veterinarians and relevant stakeholders on animal health interventions.

Project Implementation

·         Support the implementation of livestock-related project activities according to approved work plans.

·         Assist in beneficiary selection, registration, and verification processes.

·         Facilitate the distribution of livestock, feed, veterinary supplies, and other project inputs when required.

·         Ensure project activities are implemented in accordance with organizational and donor requirements.

Monitoring and Reporting

·         Conduct regular field visits to monitor training outcomes and livestock-related activities.

·         Collect and maintain accurate records of training sessions, participant attendance, and project results.

·         Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on training activities and project progress.

·         Document lessons learned, success stories, challenges, and recommendations.

Community Engagement and Coordination

·         Mobilize communities and encourage participation in livestock development activities.

·         Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, and relevant government departments.

·         Promote gender-sensitive and inclusive participation in training and project activities.

Compliance and Safeguarding

·         Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, and project guidelines.

·         Promote accountability, transparency, safeguarding, and protection principles in all project activities.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in veterinary science, agriculture, or a related field.
  • At least 3-4 years of relevant experience in livestock training, animal husbandry in National or international organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of livestock management, animal health, and breeding techniques.
  • Excellent training, facilitation, and coaching skills.
  • Experience in community mobilization and capacity building.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and travel frequently to field locations.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Fluency in Pashto, Dari, and English (written and spoken).
