About FGA

Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building.  The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005.  Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar, Nuristan, Logar, Wardak, Nimruz, Herat, Kanadahar, Badghis, Panjshir, Bamyan, Helmand & Zabul Provinces

Job Description

The Research, Learning, and Knowledge Development Section plays a central role in institutionalizing

and advancing SEED-SCALE approaches while systematically documenting lessons learned across FGA

programs and operational contexts. The Section is responsible for designing and facilitating evaluation

studies, action research initiatives, and analytical processes related to four principles, seven tasks, and

five evaluation criteria within FGA-funded interventions.

 The Section contributes to the development of academic teaching materials, technical resources,

analytical studies, academic publications, and research outputs in collaboration with Future Generations

University (FGU) and other relevant partners. Through research, documentation, technical learning, and

knowledge-sharing initiatives, the Section strengthens organizational learning, institutional memory,

analytical capacity, and evidence-informed decision-making processes across the organization.

 In close coordination with FGU and relevant organizational units, the Section supports the enhancement

of FGA’s research capacity, knowledge management systems, strategic learning mechanisms, innovation

processes, and evidence-based programming approaches. By promoting a culture of learning, reflection,

and continuous improvement, the Section contributes to institutional development, organizational

effectiveness, and knowledge-driven growth within FGA.

Job Requirements

1. Research and SEED-SCALE Integration

       Lead and support institutionalization of research and SEED-SCALE approaches across FGA programs, field offices, and operational areas.

       Conduct and facilitate research, evaluation, and action-learning initiatives related to the application, adaptation, and strengthening of SEED-SCALE methodologies and community-based development approaches.

       Support assessment and documentation of SEED-SCALE principles, seven tasks, success mapping processes, and evaluation criteria within FGA projects and operational practices.

       Produce analytical reports, case studies, learning documents, institutional publications, and research papers related to SEED-SCALE applications, organizational learning, and community empowerment initiatives.

2. Documentation and Knowledge Management

       Document organizational experiences, lessons learned, innovations, and operational knowledge across FGA programs and field operations.

       Strengthen institutional memory and internal knowledge-sharing systems through effective documentation, archiving, and learning processes.

       Develop and maintain systems for knowledge management, technical documentation, learning resources, institutional archives, and information repositories.

       Promote knowledge exchange, cross-learning, and evidence-sharing across FGA programs, operational units, FGGN members, and partner organizations.

       Support utilization of research findings, assessments, and lessons learned to strengthen adaptive programming, organizational improvement, and institutional development.

3. Research Capacity Development and Technical Learning

       Design and support training, mentoring, technical learning, and institutional capacity-development initiatives for staff, partners, and operational teams.

       Promote understanding and practical application of SEED-SCALE principles, community empowerment approaches, and evidence-based programming practices across FGA programs.

       Support the development of training materials, technical guidelines, learning tools, teaching resources, and organizational reference materials related to community-based research and development approaches.

       Facilitate workshops, technical exchanges, learning events, and information-sharing initiatives to strengthen staff capacity, professional development, and organizational learning.

       Support innovation, adaptive learning systems, and knowledge-based approaches to strengthen program quality and operational effectiveness.

4. Academic Collaboration and Institutional Development

       Support institutional reporting, publications, presentations, and knowledge dissemination initiatives related to research, learning, and SEED-SCALE applications.

       Strengthen collaboration with Future Generations University (FGU), academic institutions, researchers, learning networks, and partner organizations on research and institutional learning initiatives.

       Promote coordination among operational, technical, research, and institutional development functions across FGA programs and offices.

       Contribute to strengthening FGA’s positioning as a learning-oriented, evidence-based, and community-centered organization.

       Support continuous organizational improvement and long-term institutional sustainability through research, documentation, learning, and knowledge development initiatives.

Qaulifications:

·        Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting research studies, evaluations, action research, and learning initiatives within development or humanitarian programs.

·        Strong understanding of knowledge management and knowledge dissemination systems, organizational learning approaches, and evidence-based programming.

·        Experience in developing technical publications, academic resources, and knowledge products.

·        Familiarity with participatory, community-centered, and SEED-SCALE approaches is highly desirable.

·        Experience collaborating with academic institutions, researchers, learning networks, and development partners.

·        Strong analytical, facilitation, documentation, writing, and communication skills.

·        Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, and relevant software applications.

·        Fluency in English and proficiency in Dari and/or Pashto are required.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and knowledge management platforms.
