About Concern Worldwide

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province. Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long-term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. 

Job Description

Main duty and Responsibility

  • Supporting continuous availability of essential medicines and medical supplies at supported health facilities.
  • Monitor medicine consumption and utilization patterns at all facilities level.
  • Supports for Maintaining accurate inventory records, stock cards, and pharmaceutical documentation.
  • Supports proper receipt, storage, distribution, and accountability of medicines and supplies.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and inventory reconciliations.
  • Verify GDN deliveries and ensure accurate documentation of received supplies.
  • Monitoring minimum and maximum stock levels and initiate replenishment requests accordingly.
  • Support distribution of medicines and supplies to health facilities and outreach teams.

 

Inventory and Warehouse Management:

  • Supports that medicines and supplies are stored according to national and international pharmaceutical standards.
  • Implement FEFO (First Expiry First Out) and FIFO (First In First Out) principles at all facility levels.
  • Monitor warehouse conditions including temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and security.
  • Coordinate regular physical inventory verification exercises.
  • Assisting for proper segregation and storage of expired, damaged, or quarantined items.
  • Supporting organized warehouse and pharmaceutical storage systems.

Forecasting and Quantification:

  • Support forecasting and quantification of medicines, nutrition supplies, reproductive health commodities, and medical consumables.
  • Prepare stock replenishment requests based on facility needs and project targets.
  • Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams on supply planning.
  • Monitor stock pipeline and anticipate potential stock shortages.

Quality Assurance and Rational Medicine Use:

  • Monitor medicine quality and storage compliance.
  • Ensure medicines are dispensed and utilized according to national treatment guidelines.
  • Promote rational medicine use among healthcare providers.
  • Conduct routine reviews of prescribing and dispensing practices.
  • Monitor adverse drug reactions and report issues according to established procedures.
  • Support implementation of pharmaceutical quality improvement initiatives.

Health Facility Support and Capacity Building:

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to health facility staff on stock management and pharmaceutical practices.
  • Train staff on inventory management, reporting tools, and pharmaceutical procedures.
  • Support implementation of national pharmaceutical guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in supportive supervision visits and facility assessments.
  • Assist health facility teams in resolving pharmaceutical management challenges.

Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare monthly pharmaceutical and stock management reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock movements, consumption, losses, and adjustments.
  • Monitor stock-out risks and provide timely alerts to management.
  • Prepare reports required by donors, project management, and health authorities.
  • Maintain documentation for audits, assessments, and verification exercises.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, supervision visits, and technical reviews regarding pharmacy Management.
  • Support communication between project teams and health facilities regarding medicine requirements and supply issues.
  • Facilitate timely resolution of pharmaceutical and supply chain challenges.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning related to medicines and medical supplies.
  • Participate in emergency assessments and response activities.
  • Monitor emergency stock levels and replenishment requirements at all facility levels.
  • Support rapid distribution of medicines during emergencies and disease outbreaks.

Safeguarding and Accountability:

  • Adhere to Concern’s Code of Conduct, P4 Policy, PSEA Policy, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability in pharmaceutical management processes.
  • Promote ethical handling and distribution of medicines and supplies.
  • Support accountability to affected populations through responsible management of health commodities.
  • Report safeguarding, fraud, diversion, or misuse concerns through established reporting channels.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager relevant to programme objectives.

Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS):

  • The concern is committed to CHS to ensure downward accountability. CHS standards guide Concern activities in all stages both emergency and development projects /programs. In Afghanistan, we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees is responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that all accept and implement CHS standards in all our activities.
  • To give full support in relation to emergencies/ humanitarian operations when occurring in any area that Concern Afghanistan will respond. This can include but is not limited to participation in the Concern Afghanistan Rapid Deployment Unit (CARDU) and deployment on emergency response teams

 

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  ü   Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.

  ü   Valid pharmacy license/certification from relevant authorities preferred.

  ü   Additional training in pharmaceutical supply chain management is an advantage.

  ü   MD degree is preferable.

  ü   Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical management, warehouse management, or medical supply chain systems.

  ü   Experience working within BPHS/EPHS programmes, humanitarian health projects, insinuations or NGO-supported health facilities.

  ü   Experience in forecasting, quantification, and inventory management.

  ü   Experience working with reproductive health commodities and essential medicines is desirable.

  ü   Experience supporting multiple health facilities is an advantage.

  ü   Good spoken and written Dari and Pashto.

  ü   Good English language skills, particularly for reporting and documentation.

Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel.
