Job Description

Overall Responsibility

MHPSS Counsellor (Female) will provide psychosocial support services to women and girls affected by the earthquake through individual and group counseling, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, assessments, referrals, and structured support activities. The role supports service quality within Women and Girl Safe Spaces (WGSS) in Chawkay District and contributes to coordinated multidisciplinary care and safe, confidential case management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide individual counseling sessions for clients referred by WGSS Manager or through community identification pathways.
  2. Facilitate group counseling and structured activities, including psychoeducation and skills-based sessions where appropriate.
  3. Facilitate support groups to encourage peer sharing, mutual support, and community connectedness in a safe and survivor-centered manner.
  4. Use evidence-based therapeutic and psychosocial techniques to address identified mental health and psychosocial concerns (e.g., stress, anxiety, trauma reactions, grief, and functional difficulties).
  5. Conduct psychosocial assessments to identify clients’ needs, risks, and appropriate service pathways.
  6. Support clients with coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and self-care practices.
  7. Monitor and evaluate clients’ progress regularly and adapt interventions based on changes in needs and risk.
  8. Coordinate safe and timely referrals to relevant services (e.g., protection, GBV services, health services, legal aid) in line with established referral pathways.
  9. Work with other professionals and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive support for clients.
  10. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, progress notes, attendance (where relevant), and referral follow-up.
  11. Prepare regular reports on client progress and service delivery as required by management and in accordance with data protection and confidentiality principles.
  12. Provide services in line with survivor-centered approaches, maintaining dignity, respect, and informed consent/assent.
  13. Follow organizational safeguarding policies including PSEA/Child Protection requirements.
  14. Ensure confidentiality at all times, including secure handling of records and careful sharing of client information only with authorized staff.
  15. Immediately report any protection/safeguarding concerns or escalating risks through the established reporting and referral channels.

Job Requirements

  • 14th Grade diploma (Bachelor in Education, Psychology or related field will be preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience for at least 2 years, providing MHPSS services in humanitarian/emergency or community settings.
  • Knowledge and/or training in evidence-based psychosocial interventions and risk-informed counseling.
  • Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments, monitor progress, and adapt interventions.
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and ethical counseling practice.
  • Experience working with women and girls and/or in WGSS or GBV/child protection contexts is an advantage.
