Project Coordinator

The Sustainable Goals Organization for Afghanistan (SGOA) is a non-profit NGO established in 2020 and registered with the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Public Health. It operates in various sectors, including WASH, health, education, food security, and livelihood support, providing emergency response and relief to returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in remote and underserved areas. Partnering with organizations such as UNDP, UN Women, and NRC, SGOA aims to enhance livelihoods, promote socio-economic inclusion, and deliver humanitarian assistance. Committed to upholding human rights and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SGOA focuses on economic empowerment, improving quality of life, and integrating individuals with disabilities, while valuing honesty, integrity, teamwork, and respect for diversity.

The Project Coordinator is responsible for leading the daily management, technical execution, and field coordination of multi-component humanitarian and educational interventions. Working on a full-day schedule across 5 to 6 days per week, the coordinator will oversee integrated activities including Community-Based Education (CBE), Remedial classes, Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), Community Mobilization, and school infrastructure/construction works. This role requires close coordination with local implementation partners, community structures, local authorities, and internal technical teams to ensure high-quality delivery aligned with Core Humanitarian Standards, donor expectations, and organizational guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

1.       Project Coordination & Operational Delivery

Establish detailed project work plans, procurement schedules, activity budgets, and risk/issue registers across all project components (CBS, Remedial, ECCD, Community Mobilization, and Construction).

Coordinate project registration and administrative compliance with relevant provincial and local government authorities.

Build and maintain strong community acceptance and trust while strictly upholding Core Humanitarian Standards and SGOA operating principles.

Lead routine weekly and monthly monitoring of project activities against targets, tracking expenditures, and updating project management tools.

Maintain precise project documentation, archiving systems, and audit-ready records in close collaboration with MEAL teams.

Establish and oversee contextualized Community Feedback and Response Mechanisms (CFRM) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) protocols.

2.       Partner Coordination & Capacity Building

Facilitate daily coordination and technical guidance for local NGO partners to ensure seamless project delivery across target locations.

Monitor partner progress towards agreed targets, assessing organizational capacities and reporting progress to senior management.

Implement structured partner capacity-building plans, delivering hands-on mentoring, field visits, and cross-departmental training in procurement, finance, and HR procedures.

Ensure local partners strictly comply with SGOA policies, quality standards, and donor requirements throughout project execution.

3.       Program Quality Control, Protection & Technical Alignment

Oversee the implementation of CBS, Remedial, ECCD, Community Mobilization, and educational construction activities to ensure alignment with INEE and national standards.

Ensure protection measures, gender sensitivity, inclusion, and safeguarding are fully integrated across all stages of project delivery.

Review sensitization, community engagement, and learning materials to guarantee technical accuracy, accessibility, and cultural appropriateness.

Represent SGOA professionally in interactions with local authorities, community leaders, line departments, and partner organizations.

Education: University Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of demonstrated project coordination or management experience in humanitarian response, specifically in Education in Emergencies (EiE), partner implementation, and infrastructure/CBE projects.

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of education interventions (CBS, Remedial, ECCD, Community Mobilization) and basic construction oversight. Proven knowledge of project management frameworks, risk mitigation, and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS). Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and reporting tools.

Soft Skills & Competencies: Exceptional leadership, negotiation, communication, and empathetic people-management abilities. Strong analytical, report-writing, and problem-solving skills to manage full-day project schedules (5–6 days/week). Fluency in Dari and Pashto; high proficiency in professional English is required.

Other Requirements: Willingness to travel frequently to remote districts and field sites within assigned target provinces. Strong commitment to SGOA’s mission, values, protection guidelines, and PSEA policies.
