Afghanistan Relief and Sustainable Development Organization (ARSDO) is a national, non-profit development organization established in 2017 and registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan (Registration No. 4190). ARSDO has a strong grassroots presence and extensive experience in designing and implementing community-based development and humanitarian interventions across Afghanistan.

ARSDO works through a three-pronged strategy: 1. Community Organization and Inclusion: Strengthening grassroots community institutions with a strong focus on inclusion of vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. 2. Capacity Strengthening: Enhancing the knowledge, skills, and capacities of local communities to actively participate as co-implementers in addressing existing and emerging social, economic, and humanitarian challenges. 3. Advocacy and Policy Engagement: Advocating for improved justice, policy reforms, and the development of laws and strategies to combat social, economic, and rights-based challenges at local, national, and international levels.

ARSDO implements multi-sectoral programs including Education, Health, Economic Empowerment, Humanitarian Response, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Construction, combining advocacy with quality service delivery.

Job Description

1. Purpose of the Position

The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for supporting the pharmacist in dispensing medicines, maintaining accurate stock records, and ensuring safe and effective pharmaceutical services. The role contributes to quality patient care by promoting proper use of medicines and maintaining compliance with organizational and national standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

Dispensing & Patient Support

·       Assist in dispensing prescribed medicines under supervision of the pharmacist.

·       Provide clear instructions to patients on dosage, storage, and safe use of medicines.

·       Support counseling on over-the-counter medications when appropriate.

·       Ensure confidentiality and respectful interaction with patients.

 

Stock & Inventory Management

·       Receive, check, and store medicines and medical supplies properly.

·       Maintain accurate stock cards and inventory records.

·       Monitor expiry dates and ensure timely removal of expired medicines.

·       Support preparation of monthly stock reports.

 

Compliance & Quality Assurance

·       Ensure adherence to national pharmaceutical regulations and organizational policies.

·       Follow infection prevention and control measures in the pharmacy.

·       Uphold safeguarding and ethical standards in all interactions.

·       Report any discrepancies, shortages, or risks to the pharmacist/manager.

 

Coordination & Support

·       Assist in procurement requests and coordination with supply chain teams.

·       Support training and awareness sessions on safe medicine use.

·       Collaborate with health facility staff to improve pharmaceutical services.

 

3. Reporting Line

·       Reports directly to Project Coordinator

 

4. Qualifications

·       Diploma or certificate in Pharmacy or related field.

·       Minimum 1–2 years of experience in pharmacy or health facility support.

·       Knowledge of basic pharmaceutical practices and inventory management.

  • Fluency in Pashto/Dari; working knowledge of English is preferred.

·       Ability to work accurately, responsibly, and maintain confidentiality.
