Opportunity Description

The University of Dayton (UD) is one of the excellent 50 colleges in the United States for undergraduate academics and experiential learning that leads to successful careers. According to the Foreign Student Barometer, UD provides a wide range of options for international students, earning the University the distinction of being recognized as a premier university worldwide in studying, living, and support services.

University of Dayton’s Merit Scholarships

The University of Dayton provides merit scholarships based on students’ academic achievements. Upon admission, most UD foreign undergraduate students earn an international merit scholarship.

International merit scholarships are worth up to $30,000 per year towards tuition costs. They do not offer fully funded scholarships. The UD automatically consider all students for a merit scholarship when they receive their application and required documents.

Textbook Scholarships

Applicants may be eligible for up to $4,000 in textbook reimbursement over four years. This scholarship requires a campus visit or video visit to make students eligible.

Application Deadline

The calendar year at the University of Dayton is in three terms. International students’ application deadlines are as follows:

  • Fall term (August through December) — May 1
  • Spring term (January through April) — November 1
  • Summer term (May through July) — Case-by-case basis (applicants can apply to receive admission in the Summer of 2024)

Costs and Expenses at the University of Dayton

Dayton is an affordable city. Housing, food, transportation, and entertainment cost far less in Dayton than in other cities in the United States. Undergraduate costs for international students for the 2023-24 academic year are:

  • Tuition: $47,600 (fall and spring terms only).
  • Living expenses: $16,470 (includes UD housing and meal plan for 12 months).
  • Insurance and other costs: $5.025 (including mandatory health and accident insurance, transportation, books, etc., estimated for 12 months).

Documents Required for Admission

Students must provide an official bank statement and a letter of financial assistance demonstrating a minimum of USD 69,365. Both the name on the bank statement and the name on the letter of financial support must match.

Financial Documents:

  • The Financial Documents must be from a financial institution within the last six months, indicating the owner of the account, account number, and present balance.
  • Includes liquid funds only
  • Salary statements, property documents, retirement, investment, and business accounts are unacceptable.
  • The letter should indicate the minimum one-year cost of USD 69,365 (Spring 2024).

Letter of Financial Support:

  • This letter is not necessary for self-supporting students.
  • A signed declaration from each individual as the bank statement’s account holder(s).
  • Relationship indication to the student (mother, father, uncle, etcetera).
  • The amount of support the account holder provides to the student for one year.

Copy of Passport:

  • One copy of the candidate’s passport with the
  • Copy the applicant’s current visa if the student resides in the US.

Alternate acceptable documentation:

  • Government or Embassy sponsorship letter if the home government sponsors the applicant, a letter stating ‘For Admission Purposes Only.’
  • Affidavit of Support combines the bank statement and the letter of financial support indicated above.

 English Language Proficiency Certificate:

All students should provide proof of English competence for admission to the University of Dayton. Students can submit proof of English competence in one of these forms:

  • TOEFL (Minimum 70)
  • IELTS (6.0)
  • PTE (50)
  • iTEP (4.0)
  • Duolingo English Test (Minimum 105)
  • SAT (A minimum SAT ERW score of 400)
  • ACT (A minimum English score of 21 is required)

Intensive English Program

If an applicant is academically eligible but does not satisfy the minimal score standards given above, or if they do not submit English Proficiency results, they may receive a conditional admission offer with the promise that they would attend UD’s Intensive English Program (IEP) full time. Students will receive full admission upon successfully completing their IEP program or accomplishing an institutional TOEFL score of 80 (iB) or the equivalent.

Specifically, applicants should submit these required documents to receive admission at UD:

  • Official School transcripts and diplomas
  • Passport
  • Identity Card
  • Bank account statement ($69,365)
  • Affidavit of support
  • Personal Essay (motivation to study in the US)
  • Two Reference letters (If applicable)

Anyone who graduated from school wants to pursue their undergraduate degree and has the financial resources to study in the United States can apply.
