Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. AFGA is a fully accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and an important partner of UNFPA.

A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.  

About Hospital:

AFGA is in the process of establishment of a 20-bed hospital in Kabul, aimed at providing quality Reproductive Health services to mothers and newborns. The hospital will be fully equipped with modern medical equipment, facilities and staffed by experts.

As part of a long-term development plan, hospital services will continuously expand, serving as the central hub for AFGA outreach and small Service Delivery Points (SDPs) to refer patients needing advanced care. The hospital will adhere to national and international standards for patient safety and quality service, ensuring it meets the needs of target communities.

Summary of the job:

As a cashier in a hospital, the primary responsibility will be to handle financial transactions related to medical services provided to patients, their families, and other visitors. Specific job duties may include:

Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients and visitors: Cashier is the first point of contact for many patients and visitors, so need to be friendly and professional in interactions with patients and their representatives.
  • Collecting payments: Will be responsible for collecting payments from patients or their insurance providers for medical services received.
  • Recording transactions in billing software: All the money received from patients will be recorded in the billing software with utmost care.  
  • Understanding of Dari and Pashto: Proficiency in Pashto and Dari language is mandatory.
  • Verifying insurance coverage: Need to verify insurance coverage for patients and ensure that all necessary information is obtained to process insurance claims.
  • Maintaining financial records: Will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records related to all transactions you process. This may include recording payments, creating receipts, and reconciling accounts.
  • Resolving billing issues: Need to assist patients and their families with billing-related questions or issues, such as disputes over charges or insurance coverage.
  • Providing customer service: Need to provide excellent customer service to patients and their families by answering questions, providing information, and addressing concerns.
  • Collaborating with other hospital staff: Will work closely with other hospital staff, such as nurses, doctors, and administrative personnel, to ensure that all financial transactions are handled accurately and efficiently.
  • Handling cash: Will be responsible for handling cash, so you will need to be comfortable handling money and using a cash register.
  • Ensuring compliance with hospital policies: Will need to be familiar with hospital policies related to financial transactions and ensure that all transactions are conducted in compliance with these policies.
  • Maintaining confidentiality: Will need to maintain confidentiality regarding patient financial information, patient’s record and other sensitive data.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment: To be able to work efficiently and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Adapting to new technology: Hospitals may use a variety of technology systems to manage financial transactions, so you will need to be comfortable learning and using new technology as needed.
  • Working with insurance providers: Hospitals work with a variety of insurance providers, so cashier will need to be familiar with different insurance plans and processes in order to accurately process insurance payments.
  • Working in a team environment: Need to work closely with other hospital staff, such as nurses, doctors, and administrative personnel, to ensure that all financial transactions are handled accurately and efficiently.

Job Requirements:

  • Should have BBA degree
  • At least 2 years of experience – preferred to experiences of same position in hospitals or banks.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to multiple tasks.
  • Ability to fluently communicate in English and national languages.
