Background

EQUALITY for Peace and Development Organization (EPDO) is a women’s rights Afghan non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 2010 to empower women and youth at the community and policy level in Afghanistan. EPDO envisions Afghanistan as a peaceful, prosperous, and welfare state where all Afghans enjoy equal rights without discrimination. Therefore, EPDO aims to increase the capacity of vulnerable groups, especially women and youth, to enable them to represent their needs in all aspects of development. EPDO focuses on various spectrums of peace, security, livelihood, and development in Afghanistan — ranging from the salient need for humanitarian assistance, economic empowerment, and continuous development processes, to long-term projects for sustainable peace.

Purpose of the Assignment

The purpose of this internship is to support the Finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and facilitating smooth financial operations. The Intern will develop practical skills in accounting, documentation, data entry, and financial reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Finance Intern will perform the following tasks under supervision:

• Support the collection, scanning, and systematic filing of financial documents.
• Ensure vouchers and supporting documents are complete and compliant with internal and donor requirements.
• Maintain both physical and electronic financial records.

• Enter financial transactions into accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, ERP) as assigned.
• Assist in reconciliation of cash, bank statements, and petty cash records.
• Verify the accuracy of data and follow up on missing or unclear information.

• Assist in preparing payment requests, petty cash replenishment forms, and bank payment instructions.
• Support timely processing of staff advances and liquidation documentation.

Help track outstanding advances and follow up with staff.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
• Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel).

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Eagerness to learn and willingness to take initiative.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, team-oriented environment.
