Job Descriptions:

General Position Summary

The Cashmere and Wool Program Officer will coordinate and implement project activities to improve cashmere and wool quality, traceability, and certification in targeted areas of the project. The role includes leading trainings, conducting field assessments, strengthening market linkages, and ensuring project implementation and reporting in line with DCA and donor requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate all outcomes, outputs, and activities of projects in targeted areas, ensuring implementation aligns with the approved plan.
  • Support and train staff, farmers, producers, and processors on cashmere and wool quality improvement, traceability, certification, and best practices in harvesting, processing, and animal husbandry.
  • Lead and oversee project activities and trainings for partners, local facilitators, herders, and primary processors; facilitate knowledge sharing on innovations and value addition.
  • Strengthen linkages between domestic producers, processors, wholesalers, and international markets; carry out field assessments such as baseline surveys, needs assessments, and project progress evaluations.
  • Facilitate field activities and coordination for consultants supporting cashmere and wool activities and certification.
  • Promote sustainable and ethical cashmere and wool production practices across the supply chain.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, suppliers, industry partners, and government entities.
  • Monitor, document, and report program activities, including progress, challenges, and market trends, in line with donor requirements; prepare success stories and technical documentation.
  • Support development of market linkages and identify opportunities for value addition and business development.
  • Share innovative ideas to improve project activities and undertake any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.SC), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Animal Science, or any other relevant field
  • Work experiences of 7 years in value chain development, livestock programs among humanitarian organizations
  • Specific knowledge of cashmere will be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Teamwork, team building, coordination, and management skills
  • Proficient in listening, verbal, and written knowledge of Pashto, Dari and English
  • Having good time management and planning skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Computer skills
  • Should be able to travel within the targeted locations
