About Hand in Hand Afghanistan Organization:

Hand in Hand Afghanistan Organization (HIHAO) is a not-for-profit organization based in Afghanistan. It started operations in 2007. HIHAO is part of the international Hand in Hand (HiH) network of independent organizations, working together towards a shared vision to alleviate poverty through job creation. The overall Hand in Hand mission is to promote the economic and social empowerment of women, by supporting the creation of sustainable enterprises, improved livelihoods and jobs.

HIHAO has implemented projects funded by DFID, European Union, CAFOD, WFP, GIZ, USAID, WB, DANIDA, SIDA, Hilti foundation, UNOCHA and Hand in Hand International through its main office in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province of Afghanistan.

Hand in Hand Afghanistan is implementing the Provision of immediate humanitarian assistance in response to the worsening drought in Badakhshan Province which is funded by UNOCHA. The proposed project aims to deliver life-saving food and emergency livelihood protection to 3,400 highly vulnerable drought-affected HHs (23,800 people) residing In Jurm, Khasi.. and Arghanj Khwah districts of Badakhshan province. These districts—characterized by high-attitude terrain, harsh winters, and recurrent drought—are among the most food-insecure areas in the northeastern region of Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

 

Job Objective

To improve livestock health, productivity, and husbandry practices by providing veterinary services, supervising livestock trainers, and building the capacity of farmers and field staff. This role ensures sustainable animal care and supports the project livestock intervention.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Veterinary Services & Animal Care
  • Diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases in livestock, and other domestic animals.
  • Administer dewormer, vaccines, medications, and other treatments as required.
  • Conduct regular animal health check-ups and maintain detailed medical records.
  • Advise farmers on nutrition, breeding, reproduction, and overall herd/flock management.
  1. Animal Husbandry & Productivity
  • Guide and support farmers in improved husbandry practices to increase livestock productivity.
  • Promote good feeding, housing, hygiene, and disease prevention practices.
  • Monitor animal growth, reproduction, and production performance.
  1. Training & Capacity Building
  • Train and mentor livestock trainers and field staff on veterinary care and husbandry practices.
  • Conduct community training sessions for farmers and herders on animal health and management.
  • Develop training materials, manuals, and guidelines for livestock programs.
  1. Supervision & Program Support
  • Supervise the work of livestock trainers and field staff to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate livestock interventions and report on progress.
  • Support program planning and implementation for livestock health and productivity initiatives.

      5. Reporting & Coordination

  • Prepare technical reports on animal health, training, and project activities.
  • Liaise with local authorities, veterinary services, and stakeholders.
  • Participate in disease outbreak investigation and response as required.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Valid license to practice veterinary medicine.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in livestock health, animal husbandry, and field veterinary services.
  • Experience in training and supervising field staff and livestock trainers.
  • Knowledge of community-based livestock programs and extension approaches.
