About Hagar International - Afghanistan:

Hagar was established in 1994 in Cambodia to serve and support women and children who have survived severe exploitation and human rights abuses. In 2009, Hagar expanded its unique whole journey model of long-term, individualized care to Afghanistan and Vietnam. In 2015, Hagar also started delivering services in Singapore, Myanmar, and the Solomon Islands. We walk the whole journey of restoration with each survivor, empower communities to prevent exploitation, and strengthen systems to protect the vulnerable.

Hagar International in Afghanistan implements several integrated programs designed to help survivors recover from trauma and rebuild their lives. These include running Child-Friendly Spaces in IDP camps, economic empowerment initiatives and resilient livelihoods programs, community-based child protection programs, humanitarian relief projects, primary health care services, and emergency response activities.

Job Descriptions:

Position Purpose

To initiate the admission and follow-up process of the introduced reintegrated clients through MOLSA, as well as the shelter residential clients introduced to the vocational training according to the criteria in MoLSA child protection center, focusing specifically on clients who are male child victims of trafficking and other forms of violence and extreme abuse. Also, to establish an effective relationship between related stakeholders for better management of the client’s case.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the enrollment of new clients in accordance with the established criteria to provide support under the Community-Based Child Protection Project (CBCP), in line with organizational guidelines and project documents.
  • Identify and build relationships with organizations and line ministries working with children.
  • Lead case management meetings and maintain regular communication with the Project Manager, Project Officer, case management team, clients, and their families.
  • Support clients with health conditions who are unable to cover medical expenses due to family economic hardship.
  • Assist the team in the vocational training process and coordinate related matters with the project team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Regularly review and adapt vocational training plans to meet the individual needs of clients.
  • Update the Case Management System (CMS) database with relevant client information in a timely manner.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports as required.
  • Plan and conduct regular follow-ups for active reintegration cases, supporting multiple aspects such as well-being, health, and coordination of psychosocial counseling services.
  • Assist, and when necessary, substitute for, the Child Protection and Education Officer in coordination meetings with stakeholders and in conducting community outreach and training activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff training sessions.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the line supervisor, in compliance with organizational policies and procedures, to support the work of Hagar.

Job Requirements:

Key Selection Criteria

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Sociology is must and master’s degree in one of these fields is preferred.  
  • Must be knowledgeable of different therapeutic methods and be able to switch between different approaches to meet each child’s needs
  • Understand child rights and child protection policies
  • Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), MHPSS/psycho-social is required
  • Knowledge of issues facing vulnerable women and children in Afghanistan. Training in counselling, psychology, and/or social work is an advantage
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office

Experience:

  • At least five years’ experience in working with vulnerable children and families preferred.
  • Experience in an NGO or any related institutions, preferably in areas of working with families and building relationships with communities
  • Experience working in a challenging environment
  • Work experience and familiarity in MHPSS and social work is required.  
  • Experience in diagnosis and counselling treatments of mental illness (such as PTSD and depression) and trauma is an advantage
  • Experience working with existing networks working in child protection in Afghanistan is an advantage
