Job Descriptions:

Position Summary

The Protection Coordinator will oversee the implementation of WASSA’s Women Protection Program in Herat, Farah, and Badghis provinces under the Women Protection project. This role involves supervising and coordinating protection activities, ensuring high-quality psychosocial support (PSS/MHPSS), case management, and safe referrals for vulnerable women, girls, and boys. The coordinator will lead a team of protection staff and liaise closely with UNHCR, local authorities, and partner organizations to ensure timely and effective delivery of services in line with UNHCR SOPs, protection principles, and safeguarding policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and reporting of women protection activities in Herat, Farah, and Badghis provinces.
  • Supervise protection staff, including PSS counselors, social organizers, and support personnel, ensuring adherence to program standards and quality service delivery.
  • Ensure timely provision of inputs and resources required for beneficiaries, including the distribution of hygiene/dignity kits and economic empowerment support.
  • Provide technical oversight for psychosocial support, psychological first aid (PFA), and safe referrals in line with UNHCR Women Protection SOPs and WASSA safeguarding and PSEA policies.
  • Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and safety audits to identify risks and inform program adaptations.
  • Coordinate with social organizers and community networks to identify and refer protection cases, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
  • Monitor case management processes and referrals, ensuring adherence to established GBV referral pathways and follow-up mechanisms.
  • Collect, review, and ensure safe management of program data using both paper-based and electronic reporting tools, Activity Info (UNHCR Monitoring and Reporting Tool); submit reports to the Regional Project Manager on schedule.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans and progress reports for internal and donor reporting.
  • Strengthen partnerships and coordination with local authorities, community protection mechanisms, UNHCR, and other service providers to ensure integrated, safe, and quality support for beneficiaries.
  • Support risk mitigation efforts through safety audits, staff training, and community awareness initiatives to prevent and respond to GBV and other protection risks.
  • Promote staff well-being, including provision of necessary tools, psychosocial support, and risk mitigation measures for female staff engagement.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Regional Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Psychology, Social Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in protection, GBV, or women-focused programs.
  • At least 4 years of experience with national or international NGOs in Afghanistan.
  • Strong commitment to workplace diversity, inclusiveness, and protection principles.
  • Proven management and supervision skills, including coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Knowledge of case management, MHPSS, GBV prevention, and protection interventions.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills in English; proficiency in Dari and Pashto is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and reporting databases.

 

Reporting

The Protection Coordinator will report directly to the Regional Project Manager
