WVA targets the most vulnerable in its interventions; including children, women, Internally Displace Persons (IDPs), and returnee refugees, as well as the most impoverished and marginalized families. These priorities have been chosen to contribute to our Goal of: “Improved survival and well-being of Afghan girls and boys, building the foundations for a better future for Afghan children and their communities.” 

Our work is well established in Herat, Badghis, Ghor, and Faryab provinces in the western region of Afghanistan. We work closely with all levels of society including children, parents, teachers, village councils, religious leaders, ministries, provincial departments, and other national and international agencies

Job Descriptions:

This is a full-time, grant-funded position in the Badghis / Ghor Provinces.  The main responsibility of this position is to support the implementation of a Health and Nutrition project at the community level as well as to assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring the project in the targeting areas. He/she is mainly responsible for delivering the project activities at the field level such as identifying priority needs, sensitizing and mobilizing the communities, establishing relationships with community leaders and local government authorities, ensuring the proper selection of project beneficiaries, delivering medical assistance, conduct registration of complaints, ensure proper documentation and conduct follow-ups with beneficiaries

Job Requirements:

Major responsibility

  • Coordinate mobile health and nutrition team (MHNTs) activities with relevant government directorates, BPHS (NGOs)
  • Coordinate with the sub-health units about seconded nutrition staff and the nutrition program
  • Ensure quality programming by the MHNTs and appropriate infection control especially if there is a disease outbreak or COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Support MHNTs in problem-solving when specific health/nutrition need
  • Conducting training needs assessment, preparing and delivering training outlined on TNA for the mobile health and nutrition team staff, and CHW. (PSEA, IYCF, IMAM, IMCI etc.)
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and field-level support.
  • Coordinate project training plan with BPHS and provincial public health directorate.
  • Ensure proper pharmacy of MHNTs including consumption reports, no stockouts, and rational use of drugs.
  • Review and check HMIS data from MHNTs, analyze and submit to project coordinator and PPHD/MOPH on a timely basis.
  • Review and check the SAM/MAM monthly statistical report and submit it to the MoPH nutrition online database.
  • Follow up on referred cases by MHNTs with the hospital to ensure that they have proper secondary medical care.
  • Identify and report immediately any medical or administrative problems that may interfere with achieving program objectives to the project manager or health coordinators.
  • Organize community awareness-raising campaigns on health-seeking behavior issues in close collaboration with community elders, HFs, and BPHS NGO staff.
  • Meet regularly with beneficiary communities and leaders to ensure project effectiveness and community involvement in decision-making on MHNT services.
  • Provide joint supportive supervision on project sites and on-the-job training to MHNT staff and undertake regular supportive supervision of the project activities at the field level.

Stock management:

  • Approve dispatch of orders (first in first out or oldest by use by date), donation of close to use by date, and destruction of expired products
  • Review and approve monthly consumption reporting and timely requests for replacement
  • Ensure rational use of medical supplies – through prescription monitoring of MHNT

Reporting, analysis monitoring, and evaluation

  • Prepare monthly reports and send them to the project manager.
  • Review and forward pharmacy consumption and inventory reports to the pharmacy coordinator, and project manager.
  • Analyze the consumption of drugs and other pharmaceuticals and provide feedback project manager/health and nutrition manager/ pharmacy Coordinator and related health facilities pharmacists.
  • Beneficiary reporting – including consultations, nutrition activities, training activities, community engagement, and CHW reports to the project manager
  • Tracking of health indicators and community surveillance and reporting to health advisor if suspected outbreaks for investigation.

Documentation of best practices for learning purposes and increase program visibility

  • Required Professional Experience

  • At least 1 year of Relevant experience
  • Experience in Pharmacy management, Clinical Medical, or Nursing, staff management, and training.
  • Able to analyze medical/surveillance data
  • Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • At least should hold an MD qualification.
  • Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Humanitarian context knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in developing action plans, preparing curriculum and training/orientation materials
  • Experience in documentation and reporting
  • Experience working with community leaders (Community-Based Structures)
  • Experience in adult learning methodology and monitoring of training activities
