Background

Cure Hospital is a charitable foundation dedicated to meeting the medical needs of economically disadvantaged patients and their families. The purpose of Cure Hospital, Kabul is to provide excellent health services and training in the health provision. Cure Hospital has been present in Afghanistan since February 2005.  We have training programs in Family medicine, OB/GYN, pathology, and general surgery all of which are recognized by the MOPH.

Job Descriptions:

Daily Duties:

As responsible for the midwifery services

  • To make daily afternoon rounds with the midwives at the hospital both for oversight of quality care but also for teaching.
  • To act as a liaison and coordinating consultant between the midwives and the rest of the OB/GYN medical team including attending, fellows and residents.
  • To work with the head of midwifery and other members of the OB/GYN program to develop and implement protocols for obstetric care at the FHC and hospital.
  • To work with the head of OBGYN department to develop and implement safe practices which lead to quality care and efficient use of resources.
  • To work with the head of midwifery to train midwives.  Training will include giving lectures and organising tutorials and case presentations.
  • To work with the Head of the OB/GYN department to develop protocols and standards for managing medical problems and emergencies and ensure they are followed
  • To bring to the medical director’s attention problems that impact patient care both at the FHC and the hospital.

As a member of the hospital-based OB/GYN service:

  • To oversee the morning report and to ensure that it is meeting the goals of teaching residents, to organize patient presentations, synthesize data and formulate differentials.
  • Together with the fellows and residents to be responsible for daily patient care on the wards.  This includes seeing all new patients with the residents within 24 hours of their admission (and other patients as needed), discussing the patient’s condition and management, ensuring good recording in the patient’s records and good communication with the patients, patient’s relatives and medical staff.
  • Together with the fellows and residents to be available for OB/GYN consultations requested by other specialties and to know when to refer OB/GYN patients to other specialties for consultation.
  • To train the fellows, family medicine doctors and visiting doctors from the provinces during the ward rounds and by precepting in OPD. Training will also include giving lectures and organising tutorials and case presentations.
  • To work with the other members of the OB/GYN department to develop protocols and standards for managing emergencies and ensure they are followed
  • To work together with the Director of the CURE OB/GYN Fellowship program to ensure that the fellow’s receive thorough and balanced training in obstetrics and gynecology during their 18-month program.
  • To bring to the medical directorate’s attention problems that impact patient care.
  • To show commitment to own continued medical education.

 

Administrative:

  • With the head of midwifery to conduct and report an audit of obstetric care at either the FHC or the hospital every three months. (4 times per year)

Job Requirements:

  • Requires an MD degree and registration with the MoPH
  • The candidate must have attended and qualified from an OBGYN residency program recognized by the Ministry of Public Health
  • Relevant post-graduate medical qualification – Membership (UK), Fellowship (Pakistan), Boards (USA), OB/GYN Fellowship CIH.
  • Adherence to the values of Cure International Hospital which include honesty and professionalism in all dealings with patients, their relatives, and other hospital staff.
  • Ability to use computer to enter data, write reports etc.
  • Able to admit mistakes and work well in a team.
  • Good communication skills.
